Reported Attack Site!

Is anyone else still getting these warnings when they click on random threads???

See this thread for details of when it all kicked off. It doesn't happen with every thread anymore - maybe 1 in 10. The big red warning splash screen is a bit alarming though, however I just click on the Ignore link - it has kind of become automatic to do so, but very annoying. However I have just realised that, mardy bunch that you lot are, if it were still happening to everyone else you would have kicked up a stink by now.

So assuming I am somehow special Grin WHY is this still happening to me? Did you all turn down your security settings? Cos I daren't

Anyone ...

OP posts:
FourFingeredKitkat · 08/03/2011 22:34

No problems here...

usualsuspect · 08/03/2011 22:35

I haven't had any recently

Hassled · 08/03/2011 22:37

I did have this at the time of the Big Red Sign Crisis and am so traumatised by it I'm reluctant to even click on the thread .

But it's long gone and I didn't tweak my security (in fact I think I upped it) - weird that you still have it. Might be worth reposting in Geeky Stuff.

PurveyorOfWoo · 08/03/2011 22:42

Thanks for replying!

So it seems I am special then

Hassled, the BIG RED SIGN is traumatising, but I'm somewhat inured to it by now. What is annoying is the ONE. EXTRA. CLICK. I have to do to actually read the thread Grin

Is it reasonable to report my OP to MNHQ? Or is that simply shrewish?

OP posts:
PaperView · 08/03/2011 22:43

I haven't had any since the last time either.

Hassled · 08/03/2011 22:46

I should report - they may have a solution. Or just email them.

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 08/03/2011 22:47

No I haven't.

Is it just me or has the Logo gone a horrible purple colour??

SNOWBall4girlz · 08/03/2011 22:48

It has gone purple ? why?

TheArmadillo · 08/03/2011 22:49

ooh I hadn't noticed the logo till nwo

tis hideous.

PurveyorOfWoo · 08/03/2011 22:49

Ah, the purple logo I do know about. A one day thing for International Women's Day.

OP posts:
SNOWBall4girlz · 08/03/2011 22:50

It is normally blue isn't it? Weird.

usualsuspect · 08/03/2011 22:50

You can click the logo now

SNOWBall4girlz · 08/03/2011 22:51

Ok back to blue tomorrow then?

DamianTech · 09/03/2011 12:50

Hi PurveyorOfWoo,

I would recommend running a full anti-virus scan on your system, as it sounds like something may be causing problems on your system.

Are you using Firefox? If so, I would try running it in safe mode, and see if the alerts still come up.

In general, I would recommend NOT ignoring any of these reports, even if it turns out to be a false positive, it's not worth the risk. Obviously we here at Mumsnet have no intention on attacking our members, but it's always possible for an advert to go rogue, or for one of our pages to be hi-jacked. Hopefully neither of these will happen, but please be on your guard. :)

Hi Damian, thanks for the reply.

OK, so I am using Firefox and have just turned safe mode on. Sadly I found a thread which still gives the warning pretty quickly - it's this one. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason which threads behave like this, even very new threads with just an OP can cause it to happen. Like I mentioned above it happens in about 1 in 10 threads, so fairly frequently in a browsing session. It definately started happening around the that time when the whole site was affected, it did diminish, but never completely went away. I'm rather sad to think it is only me still being affected - what have I done wrong??

Back at the time I never made any adjustments to my security settings at all. Nothing else seems to be affected. Oh, and my laptop runs a virus scan (AVG Free) daily, plus I have just inititated a full scan now but nothing showing so far. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate OS, SP2 fully patched.

Any other ideas for me.

Hi PurveyorOfWoo,

Well, it looks like we can rule out any addons causing the issue then. The thread looks to be okay to me (anyone else?), so I'm thinking either it's a very rare-appearing advert (unlikely, since they get rotated quite often), or it's something on your PC. If the scan doesn't pick anything up, you may need to try running it in safe mode.

It's also possible your Firefox profile has gone tits up, perhaps try browsing using a different profile (press Win+R and type in firefox -p to get to the profile manager), or try using Chrome to access the thread and see if it still happens.

Thread was fine to me - also on FF but win7

PurveyorOfWoo · 10/03/2011 17:33

Damian, you might like to know I have bitten the bullet and installed Chrome. All OK so far, still getting used to the interface though - but I like having new toys to play with.

Poor old Firefox, wonder what I did to upset it so much.

OP posts:
DamianTech · 11/03/2011 09:29

Well, it may be that your profile or installation is the problem, then. You can try re-installing Firefox, or clearing your profile folder. Note that the latter step will erase your bookmarks, addons, history etc., so make sure there isn't anything you might miss later on.

OFC if you're happy with Chrome, don't let me get in your way. :)
