What does 'convert links automatically'?

If you have a link in the message you have written, it will convert it to a proper link not just some text

so if you are linking to a whole website address it's easy but what if you are just linking a page - what do you type in? If you are going back anf forth between tabs then the top address bar disappears anyway.

Why do you need it, though? I mean, why would you not want it to be a link? Can't they just do it automatically?

Because when I do my clever linking with the alternative name, if the website automatically turned the linky bit into a link I'd be left with a bit mess

Not really because then things like www.catsbummouthsRus.com would convert to a link and it isn't one.

Yes I think they could make it automatic - and now I know that it works when I try to do a named link I don't see why they wouldn't.
