Last poster link?

Just an idea - you know in the topics where it tells you who the last poster is? How about having their name appear as a link to the end of the thread?

Argument for - it would be much easier if you are following a thread but are not on it to skip to the end to see the last post/s.

Argument against - maybe it woukd encourage people to read only the last post and no more.

I'd second this option. After all, it would not be necessary for those who don't like to use it to ever click that link, and I often want to jump to the end as I may have been following something quite closely for a few days, so really do want to jump near the end.

Anyone else? Smile

Isnt that basically the same as bookmarking where you were up to?

NetworkGuy · 03/03/2011 07:07

Oh, is that what the dumb bookmark thing is meant to do. Had no idea as there was no confirmation of whether it had actually done something.

Sorry, on other things where I've set a bookmark, there's actually a section listing the bookmarks so I can choose which one to use

I assumed it was for something to work in future...

Hi NetworkGuy,

Perhaps the name Bookmark is a bit misleading, since it's used to mean a stored link on the web in a lot of programs, but on MN it's a bookmark in the literal sense, in that it marks the place you stopped reading so you can jump back to the same point later.

Regarding the idea of having the last post nickname link to the end of a thread, this is possible to implement, but I'd be interested to see how many people are for/against this idea first.

Re 'Bookmark' button - perhaps call it 'Mark my place' ?

Without an explanation of how you can jump back to that in future, I find it a bit puzzling.

However, it might explain why, having once clicked it (but having had no 'feedback' to confirm that as the case), future visits to one thread took me half way down the third page (I now can put 2 and 2 together and assume I had 'marked my place' and that's why it jumped there).

Perhaps you can consider change from appearing when hovering mouse, to altering text to 'Marked' on a red/pink background (instead of pale blue now) and visible even without mouse over it... So it would be clear that post had been 'singled out' (and even clearer if viewing the thread another day, or from another computer, that it was because it was 'marked' that display jumped to a specific post).

I don't have bookmarking as I[m on classic, but I read the page downwards anyway so it's easy to see the last message.

Finding the last one I read though is not always easy!
