Good day MNetters,
We've been asked if we'd host ads for McDonalds, so we thought we'd ask what you think. Would you object to banner ads (ie like the one at the top of the page) on Mumsnet?
Let us know.

OP posts:
Snotgobbler · 01/03/2011 16:27

don't have a problem, it's not a site for children so grown ups can choose if they want to click on it/be subliminially persuaded to eat some lard Grin

BecauseImWorthIt · 01/03/2011 16:28

OOoh Justine - you are brave!

I shall watch this with much interest ...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/03/2011 16:28

Doesn't bother me. Can we have a free burger if we click on the ad? :o

EdgarAleNPie · 01/03/2011 16:28

i can't help but feel we aren't their core emgraphic...

it coul backfire spectacularly.

Esian · 01/03/2011 16:30

oooh selling your souls! More cash in your coffers though Grin.

ShatnersBassoon · 01/03/2011 16:30

Wouldn't bother me. I couldn't say what the current ads on here are for without looking, so I'm not likely to notice anyway.

pinkhebe · 01/03/2011 16:31

I don't have a problem with it

Bonkerz · 01/03/2011 16:32

I dont think it matters really. McDonalds isnt evil and people have free choice. If it brings in more revenue for mumsnet then go for it!

PortBlacksandGinLane · 01/03/2011 16:33

I don't mind as long as it's not that creepy one where he (RM) walks round the corner of the bunk beds.....

someonesgotthenameichose · 01/03/2011 16:33

agree with all the above
get the cash in from Maccy D's for mumsnet
We are all adults and can make our own minds up

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 01/03/2011 16:34

It wouldn't bother me, as adults I'm sure we can decide for ourselves whT we eat.
Can you do a deal with Burger King or KFC though as I prefer them to Mcdonalds Wink

ArfurBrain · 01/03/2011 16:35

i'd rather not. A couple of years of carrot sticks does not undo decades of crap, unhealthy food and aggressive, pervasive advertising towards children, In my opinion. Not to mention Evil Clowns....

TheSmallPrint · 01/03/2011 16:39

I don't mind if they give me a free suasage and egg McMuffin.

Keep it small though.

scrappydappydoo · 01/03/2011 16:41

I don't mind really but then again I don't pay much attention to the ads - I just zone them out...

strawberrycake · 01/03/2011 16:42

Anything but that stupid persil one that plays music if your mouse strays.

DinosaursHateUnderpants · 01/03/2011 16:42

No problem with it at all.

Lulie110 · 01/03/2011 16:43

Do it! IMHO, they have not done anything unethical (assuming the majority are not veggie. Although I am as it happens!). On the contrary, the UK branch is quite good on welfare vs. its competitors. So beyond that, MN-ers can make up their own minds.

PaperView · 01/03/2011 16:43

I'd rather not. Burgers and chips does not = Jamies DInners which we are all supposed to be feeding our children.
A bag of dried up carrots just doesn't cut it.

(disclaimer - my children do eat McDs on occasion)

PaperView · 01/03/2011 16:45

Where would you draw the line? Pizza hut? KFC? BUrger King? Cheese strings? mars bars? .....

Grabaspoon · 01/03/2011 16:48

I don't see why not. Like Boden, GLTC, we're adults and we can choose where we shop etc.

sahara13 · 01/03/2011 16:49

Not a problem with it here.

LGJ · 01/03/2011 16:50

Take the adverts and divert the fees earned to a nominated charity ?

'tis the thin (or rather fat saturated end) of the wedge.

IMO

I tend not to notice any ads Blush So I'm fine with it

getabloodygrip · 01/03/2011 16:56

We are all adults so can choose to click/ignore or whatever

But if MN has taken a moral stance against Nestle, and all the girls can be girls things, why aren't you taking a moral stance against the company which has contributed, for much of its existence, to climate change and damage to indigenous populations by ravaging the rainforests?

Go for it, by all means, line MN's pockets, but I hope you sleep at night, honey!
