Please? pedants, educationalists, people interested in children learning English etc etc would all like it, I think.

Oh that would be fab! I love his book Listen To Your Child.

Bumperlicious · 23/02/2011 12:19

I love David Crystal too!

Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:19

What about David Cassidy?
Or David Soul?

What about all the other Davids?

Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:22

(Can I have a quick precis of general theory?)

catinthehat2 · 23/02/2011 12:22

DAvid Essex
I vote for David Essex

Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:22

Get out of here, Hully. You are sullying the thread with your David fetishes.

OP posts:
Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:23

It's NOT a random David thread, you beasts. start your own.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:25

He was intrestin.

Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:25

David Bowie.

Make him come as Ziggy and bring the Spiders.

Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:29

Piss off, hully. I've been trying to get David Crytal on for a webchat for ages and you are Not Helping.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:32

David...Steel

David....Owen

gosh there are a lot of Davids.

Why don't you email Dave Crystal on his website and invite him?

And where's my precis?

mistressploppy · 23/02/2011 12:33

Yes please, linguistics nut here, I would like David Crystal please, thank you please, good afternoon Grin

coastgirl · 23/02/2011 12:34

Yes, and he can settle some pedants' quibbles too!

Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:35

Because I think it's MNHQ's party, and they do the inviting . What precis do you want? Not that I'm minded to help you, you thread-crashing termagant.

OP posts:
Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:36

Ooh - I just pulled that word out of the ether - had to check that it didn't mean lorry or beetle.

OP posts:
Hullygully · 23/02/2011 12:36

But they might have forgotten him. Perhaps they don't like his beard?

Gotta go now (try not to cry), but want a precis of his overarching theoretical underpinnings.

Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:39

He's a descriptive linguist, Hully. ds is now carefully putting his lunch in the bin, so I can do no better than that.

OP posts:
Rehabbibu · 23/02/2011 12:39

And besides, they let you on with your beard, so DC's should be a breeze.

Youremindmeofthebabe · 23/02/2011 13:04

Another vote for David Crystal.

HelenMumsnet · 25/02/2011 10:30

Thanks for the suggestion. Anyone else agree?

Hullygully · 25/02/2011 10:35

I do.

moondog · 25/02/2011 14:05

Yes, David Crystal will be marvelously entertaining.
He is a wonderful man and I had the pleasure of having him as a lecturer many moons ago.

mistressploppy · 25/02/2011 14:12

Oh Moondog, I wonder if we studied at the same department (he'd left by the time I got there though, boo)
