Name Changes

oops pressed enter too fast then!

Can I just ask if it would be possible to hide any previous names used when name changing. At the moment, if I am logged in, which I usually am - anyone who uses this computer only has to know my email address to log into the name change section, where they could see what previous user names I have used. Is there any way around this at all?

You have a password surely? How would they know your password?

Yes, FrottageCod: to get to the namechange bit of MN, you need to log in again to MyMumsnet (with your email address and password) ? even if you are logged to Talk already.

Hi FrottageCod,

The usernames are being stored client-side, i.e. on your machine. You need to clear your form history, how this is done will depend on which browser you're using. If you can find that out I'd be happy to show you how it's done, or you can just search Google. :)

Helen while you are here, Is it possible to have member since [year] on a profile permanently and it move from name change to name change? Be easier to spot the instant trolls?

FrottageCod · 22/02/2011 19:50

Thanks for the replies. My email address is pretty easy to work out, although if I could clear my form history that would be good, then I could change back undetected! I'm on safari, if you could advise Damian, I'd be very pleased.

I tried removing form information but the old nicks are still there! Gah

Do people know your password then?

PaperView I think people who namechange for sensitive reasons or to troll for that matter rarely have profiles anyway! And it does put your original join date on your profile regardless of namechanges afaik. Certainly does for me.

@FrottageCod: If you go into Safari's preferences and choose the AutoFill tab, there should be an Edit button next to usernames and passwords. Click that, then scour the list for your old nicknames and remove them. You may also need to edit Other forms and remove Mumsnet from the list.

Obviously we cannot remove the nickname history page, so I would suggest if you're worried about people seeing it, only let Safari save your talk nickname/password, not the email address used to log in to MyMumsnet. The logins are separate so you shouldn't have any problems, so long as you can remember your email address. :)
