Please, allow mw!
I love this forum, but i really cannot stand the acronims.
DH....for example... Dear Husband...and maybe you are just thinking about divorcing him....

Am i the only one to think this?
Ok, now you can kill me, but i just cant stand AIBU....DP....SF.... NS... FFS....

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 11:43

well most of them are used across the whole WWW.......and have been for a Loooooooooooooong time. - so YABU

Furball · 27/12/2010 11:44

but......acronyms are not unique to mumsnet - they are used on alot/most chat forums

IAmReallyFabNow · 27/12/2010 11:44
Confused

What are SF and NS?

FlightoftheCrimbleTree · 27/12/2010 11:45

I would rather people said DH than hubby, however much they hate him, so to me it is the less evil abbreviation.

FlightoftheCrimbleTree · 27/12/2010 11:46

Good point Fab. WTF are those two?!

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 27/12/2010 11:51

You don't have to use them, sea! I don't.

sea74 · 27/12/2010 11:52

yeah ok, they are used everywhere but in some topics i read it is unbelievable there is one every 2 other words. It makes it really difficult to read.

PS: SF and NS... i was just typing blindly!!! Grin

OP posts:
BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 11:53

you need to spend more time online then sea if you find it hard to read Xmas Grin

I some of us find ourselves thinking DH, DS, DC, FGS, in real life as we're so used to them Xmas Wink

sea74 · 27/12/2010 11:54

Tortoiseonthehalfshell , i dont but then when i read a topic they make me give up reading...

I am just asking to be a bit....frugal with them.

OP posts:
Katisha · 27/12/2010 11:54

Took me a long time to be able to bring myself to use DH, DS etc. But now I don't notice it.
And agree that hubby is utterly utterly ghastly word.

FlightoftheCrimbleTree · 27/12/2010 11:55

That's one I really object to. PS.

FlamingoBingo · 27/12/2010 11:56

YABU. Get used to it.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/12/2010 13:01

4

DanceInTheDark · 27/12/2010 13:02

BALD i was just going to type that!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/12/2010 13:07

heh heh heh

sea74 · 27/12/2010 21:38

Dont use hubby.
Dont use DH.

Husband.

Ps: ps is one of the few acronyms people know straight away.

Anyway, i am not against acronims in totu. I am just against overuse.

OP posts:
BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 21:39

there's only one answer - spend more time online (not just Mumsnet - just about any old forum will do) - in short while you'll find yourself thinking in acronyms in real life and even referring to your children as the "DS's" to RL friends Xmas Grin

supernoodlesrock · 27/12/2010 21:42

FGS IMHO YABU

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 27/12/2010 21:46

Blimey! And you find that the most annoying thing about Mumsnet?

mylifewithmangers · 27/12/2010 21:47

PMSL SNR

dearprudenceandtheivy · 27/12/2010 21:49

They take a bit of getting used to at first, but they are useful shorthand - and much better than text speak.

clutha · 27/12/2010 21:51

i was just commenting on this today!

im a member of a few forums and their are well known abbreviations common to fora in general.

but the ones on here?
what the heck are they about???
they mind boggle me, defintley make it difficult to follow threads at times.
and then when you find out what they are acronyms for, you think why would you have an acronym for that????
why dear husband???
surely you would just have H for husband, or OH for other half, for examples?

then you get DG, YABU, etc, etc.
Confused

my fiance joined after i did, but the abbreviations put her right off coming back after a couple of days
she is member of a few forums as well, and also hasnt had this problem before.

sea74 · 27/12/2010 21:52

I will never use them in real life.

OP posts:
PressureDrop · 27/12/2010 21:53

Oh fuck off if you don't like it, FFS

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 27/12/2010 21:56

hahaha sea - that's what I we all said Xmas Wink

no "H" for husband is for when they're being a dickhead and you hate them and want to leave them, DH is for just talking about general complaints/lovely stuff, exH - well is exH obviously.

The "D" often gets dropped of put in "'s when it's not positive

There's a list up ^^^^ with all of them on.

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/info/acronyms\quick link to it here} HTH

now YABU so FGS STFU .........IYKWIM
