AIBU

I just wondered what your thoughts are on how the AIBU topic is used at the moment. My understanding of the point of the topic is that people post in it to invite debate - either because they are not sure if they are BU or if they want to create a bit of banter about a subject they find amusing for whatever reason.

However, lots of people seem to use it purely because it is high traffic, to get a lot of responses to their OP which doesn't fit the category at all - this is boring for those of us who like reading genuine AIBU posts, and invites debate on a subject they may not wish to be told they are being unreasonable about!

The third type of poster seems to ask about something they don't think they are being at all unreasonable about, seemingly because they want to be told they have done/are doing exactly the right thing. When they are told they are BU they then get the hump and throw their toys out of the pram. This creates all sorts of tantrums and degenerates into slanging matches and threads about threads where OPs have taken exception to being disagreed with.

Could more guidance be added to the AIBU page about what constitutes a genuine AIBU post? (I do recognise that I probably need to get out more, BTW! Xmas Grin)

are you suggesting we have 'rules' for AIBU? nah, its like one big cage fight, post at your peril, no rules.

That is sort of my point really, I think if you are posting in AIBU you have to take it on the chin, but increasingly more and more people get their knickers in a knot if anyone dares to disagree with them!

No - if you need rules as to what can be posted and where then you need to shut down your computer and step away for a while.
