Threads I'm On - sort order ?

NetworkGuy · 28/11/2010 16:21

I felt sure that in the past, any threads which had recent additions were visible first, with older unloved threads at the bottom of the 50 shown.

Now I cannot see any logic in the order of threads if I use this search feature - certainly not grouped depending on where posted (eg geekystuff threads, pedantscorner threads, site_stuff threads) so if I have time, I try to look through the lot to see which have had any update in the last 1-3 days, but it is a bit of a pain not knowing if the last of those shown was updated recently and stays at the bottom of the list.

OK, someone might tell me I was imagining that they used to be ordered by the date of the final contribution in the thread (and not the date of my last contribution, IYSWIM) but if they were never sorted before, can someone at MNHQ please consider this as a request ? TIA

So far as I've ever been able to tell, they only pop to the top of your list when you post on them.

But I agree with your suggestion!

RustyBear · 28/11/2010 16:35

They have always been ordered by date of my last contribution since I joined MN - nearly 5 years.

But I agree that it would be more useful if threads that had been recently added to by anyone went to the top.

MrsDinky · 28/11/2010 16:39

I agree, sometimes mine feels very cluttered up with threads that I posted on and then they fizzled out, whereas ones that keep on going are much further down. I would like a hide button next to them, so that you can just get rid of the dead threads fr om that list

NetworkGuy · 28/11/2010 16:42

Thanks - felt sure it may have been a change in my posting habits, so if it does depend on last posting by person making query, it should perhaps have option (radio button selection):

sorted by date of o latest contribution O your last post in thread

(where 'latest contribution' is the default)

I also agree with MrsDinky that there should be a hide button like there is in Active.

NetworkGuy · 28/11/2010 16:48

I'd also second a 'hide' button, though I am sure it would come back to bite me if I 'hid' a thread and a couple of weeks later someone came back with some really useful info, or a secondary question (where one felt the thread had run its course and would not change afterwards).

I have seen 'hide' alongside results from a search but it wasn't from 'last 15 min', 'last hour' or 'last day' and I have maybe used 'threads I started' once in 2 years, so must be the 'advanced search' which provides 'hide'.

Ah, 'Active' - another I rarely hit !

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 28/11/2010 17:00

It's also at the top of all the threads, Networkguy.

NetworkGuy · 28/11/2010 18:00

Yes, but you'd have to view them one by one to hide and no way to (easily) get shot of (say) 20.

Well, easy enough to do it, I suppose, but the method is pretty boring.

OP posts:
MrsDinky · 28/11/2010 18:13

I've hidden them on Threads I'm on, by the opening them one at a time method, it is tedious. I would not hide any I started in case anyone came back with a belated response, the problem at the moment is that they can be so far down that you don't see them.

Tee2072 · 28/11/2010 18:14

Yes, I see what you mean. I misunderstood you Networkguy. I thought you meant that the 'hide' option was only on Active, when it's not!

I agree, very tedious to have to open each one to hide them from your 'I'm On' list.

How about a change to the sort order, please, MNHQ ?

Hello. And yes, this is on our List of Things to Do.

But it is a v v long list, so please bear with us while we plough through it...

NetworkGuy · 30/11/2010 12:31

Thanks for the reply... promise I will be patient....

RustyBear · 06/12/2010 07:04

Ooooh, you're working on it, aren't you?

Still a little odd ('Latest I'm On' is stuck on December 2nd) , but I'll be patient.....

Thank you!

NetworkGuy · 06/12/2010 09:35

I can see there has been a change (adding info about how the sort was done) but clearly seems a little odd at present - not sure how order has been defined for the default view but it showed 0 posts/threads where I have posted during December, and the ones in November seemed to be from 15.11 to 24.11 but topics / threads in some random order (perhaps based on original thread creation date/time, not sorted by subject area such as SiteStuff or GeekyStuff and not simply by date, either).

Well, happy to see a change, happier once it is working a bit more predictably :)

Thanks MNHQ and especially tech bods...

OP posts:
HecTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 06/12/2010 09:37

Doesn't seem to be an order. Nothing I've posted on in the last few days is there.

Don't know why they have to keep messing with stuff, mutter mutter, nothing wrong with it the way it was, mutter mutter, always going off line while they faff, mutter mutter...

Oh good, not just me then... I did like it the way it was, but hey will go with what the majority like/is technically possible

NetworkGuy · 09/12/2010 10:54

" I did like it the way it was "

sorry to you (and anyone else who dislikes change)...

Wonder if the choice can be remembered for subsequent clicks (sorry have not really tested it much today, and had to go out for a bit too)

NikitaTech · 09/12/2010 12:05

Hi NetworkGuy.Its still the same as old one ,there is no change in original concept of thread order ,its just extra option to sort by most recent post,So i don't have to revert anything back to original ,except removing that link.
