Why have all my emoticons, Twitter link etc turned into ?

I'm using an iPhone if that makes a differenc. Just lots of blue boxes with question marks in them across my screen.

Makes everyone look very quizzical.

Yup, has been like it since yesterday I think (have lost track of time a bit recently, sleep deprivation). I think around the same time there were posts about the new PM and off the beaten track etc.
