quick question for mnhq about libel

Hello

Just a quick question I will not mention your cases.. but I was reading the case of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club v Hargreaves 2007 and it was ordered that the host website provide the names and real identities of the posters of the libellous comments on their site so that they could be joined as defendants in the libel action. I presume this would rarely occur as any material would be removed in a timely manner but I was just wondering if you know whether this is still good law?

Thanks

You might find some useful info here, here and here.

Let us know if you need anything else.

VVV - that sort of order for disclosure is known as a Norwich Pharmacal. That's why the data collection points on every website say that they'll only divulge your data in limited circumstances "and where required by law" (or words to that effect. Very brief summary here:

Thank you very much, it did come up and I threw quite a bit in Smile thanks for your help MNHQ and Attenborough, I hadn't heard of that order before (no lectures and baby curtails much reading time!)

Just out of interest, I have wondered how they can be forced to pass posters names on as you don't necessarily have to sign up with your real name, I'm fairly sure I haven't. Could MNHQ be forced to pass on IP addresses?
