How to avoid scrolling back up after reading thread?

When I get to the bottom of a thread (my settings are all one page, oldest post down to newest, if it makes any difference), I'd like to be able to click straight on to Active/I'm On without having to scroll all the way back up to the top, esp on a particularly long thread. Is there a way to do this, and if not, can we have it please?

hit 'home' button, also hit 'end' to jump to bottom of page

Flip the thread so you start reading from the bottom. (Click add a message to start at the bottom)

catinthehat2 · 02/09/2010 22:15

"Flip the thread so you start reading from the bottom"

Every time bad people do that it makes a fluffy kitten die.

PLease don't encourage vulnerable posters such as the OP to engage in this sort of perverted activity. It is WRONG.

ChequeredFlag · 02/09/2010 22:22

I don't like thread flipping, I get all Confused, and possibly kill kittens too.

But, ASecretLemonadeDrinker, I very much like your tip and will use it lots, I thank you. Thank you. Smile

You could try right clicking on the thread you're interested in and selecting open in new tab, thus leaving Active convos open all the time. You then can simply close a tab when you've finished reading a thread and refresh Active using either your normal refresh button or F5.

I tend to have up to 15 threads open in different tabs, with Active in another and sometimes I'm On in yet another.

I only refresh Active once I've opened all the threads I might be interested in right the way through. That sometimes means I'm opening threads which have fallen off the current Active some time ago.

Jux · 02/09/2010 22:29

I do this so I don't kill kittens, btw.

TriplePachyderm · 02/09/2010 22:31

just hit home

and do not start killing kittens

Hassled · 02/09/2010 22:31

Oh I always start from the bottom. It makes sense - I'm quite sure more things grow up (trees, beansprouts) than grow down (stalactites and er, that's it).

catinthehat2 · 02/09/2010 22:34

Thank you Jux. I am glad to see some posters care about doing things the Right way. Multiple tab opening is the way forward, and much safer for baby mammals.

Rockbird · 02/09/2010 22:35

Multiple tabs here too. It is the Only Way.

catinthehat2 · 02/09/2010 22:37

OK Hassled.

Do you WRITE from the bottom of a page????
NO

Do you EAT a banana from the bottom up???
NO

I think that you and your like need to examine you motives thoroughly before openly posting about your wicked ways on a family website

Hassled · 02/09/2010 22:41

Cat - how is Mumsnet like a banana? Is a fruit still alive once it has been picked? I think not (probably).

But a MN thread is a living organism that should grow upwards, much as the banana tree originally did.

And no, I don't write from the bottom up but I'm thinking it could catch on.

catinthehat2 · 02/09/2010 22:42

KITTY MURDERER!!!!

Hassled · 02/09/2010 22:50

:o

I'm such a Luddite that it was a blinding revelation to me when someone pointed out there was an "Add Message" option at the top. I was insanely excited about it, and started randomly adding messages just because I could. Before that I'd been scrolling down through 687 messages just to write "Leave him".

Rockbird · 02/09/2010 23:06

I use 'add message' to get to the bottom so I can read the most recent posts. Very useful button, that :o

ChequeredFlag · 02/09/2010 23:22

Ok, Jux, I'm a bit scared by your proficiency. Multiple tabs is too much like a pro, whereas I'm more of a lurker/occasional poster.

Hassled, that suggests that now you don't read ALL THE POSTS; surely something no-one would own up to?

Upside down reading is weird.

put active convos on your favourites toolbar (Firefox, I know not of IE) and then just hit it when you get to the BOTTOM of the page
