How can I get rid of a virus

Not sure where best to post this, so I'm trying here.

Dh has aquired some sort of virus on his laptop.

I've read in the paper this morning that this virus attempts to access your bank and remove cash so we're obviously very worried about this.

We have no idea how to get rid of it and as his laptop now won't let him access the internet I said I'd ask on here for him.

Any advice please?

Do you have a virus scanner? first thing to do is visit their website and see if they have any updates

usually when a new virus comes out the the virus scanner comapines will develop way of getting rid of them, so its always worth getting their updates

If you know the name of the virus you have you can search the web for ways of getting rid of it

Run a virus scan to find the name of the virus and try and get rid

if you dont have a virus scanner then get one installed, if you search the web there are usually free demos out there

We're a bit stuck VT as his laptop won't let him get on the internet.

When he switches the lappy on he gets pop-up after pop-up telling him Zeus virus is trying to access his bank account.

My first thought was to get him to do a complete scan but it just won't let him on.

i google this virus for you and found some info:

  • The ZEUS trojan will commonly use names like NTOS.EXE, LD08.EXE, LD12.EXE, PP06.EXE, PP08.EXE, LDnn.EXE and PPnn.EXE etc, so search your PCs for files with names like this. The ZEUS Trojan will typically be between 40KBytes and 150Kbytes in size.

  • Also look for a folder with the name WSNPOEM, this is also a common sign of infection for the ZEUS Trojan.

  • Finally, check the Registry lloking for RUN keys referencing any of these names.

Can he access the start menu to be able to look for any of these files and try to delete?

Will do some more googling for you

Thanks VT, he's out at the moment but I'll get him to check as soon as he's back.
