Subscriptions - what does the money pay for ?

I've been on here a few months now and haven't paid yet. I am now going to pay up as I realise that this is needed to keep the site going & I've found it really valuable.

However, I'm not sure what the subs pay for. I mean, once the site is set up, what exactly are the running costs? I would have thought they were pretty minimal. Doesn't the advertising pull in a fair amount?

I'm not trying to duck out of paying my fair share. As mentioned, I'm about to send a cheque. I'm just genuinely (perhaps naively) in the dark about what the costs are of running the site.

Also, anyone know if the site accepts PayPal yet?

Well, the full time members of staff need paying

The bandwith (or whatever) needs paying just always running on a server/s

design updates

computer hardware and software

vat
daily maintenance

insurance
bank charges
tax

to name a few

Thanks. Feel suitably informed & ashamed for not paying sooner!

(Scurries off to write cheque)

Lemonice, I just read vat as vet and wondered what they could possibly need one for!

lemonice · 23/08/2005 20:32

Marthamo, the mumsnet cat...

Katemum · 23/08/2005 20:34

It's to keep that damn bat in full fitness!!

SleepySuzy · 23/08/2005 20:35

Keep hearing about this bat? Is this a private joke?

Katemum · 23/08/2005 20:36

Some of the mad folks on here keep giving links that are to a bat to trick people into clicking on it. Sure someone will give you an example soon

SleepySuzy · 23/08/2005 20:37

Ok....

Magscat · 23/08/2005 20:56

Lemonice - wasn't offended - no worries. Appreciated a straight answer to a straight question.

PS. I don't get the bat thing at all!
