Cot bumpers - WTF?

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of a cot bumper is? (Apart from providing the opportunity to suffocate some hapless little baby who accidentally wriggles too close. )

Maybe it's to stop limbs getting stuck between bars or just to make extra money out of people .

mainly for decorational purposes i think

They must be far more comfortable to sleep against than a row of cot bars. That's what I thought at the time anyway. Mind you our boys wriggled all round their cots in their sleep maybe some babies remain in the centre of the cot?

Purely for decoration and to make more money out of us, just like the beautiful quilts they have in every cot in shops like mothercare that aren't suitable for babies under 1.

If you are worried about suffocation, try the breathable cot wraps, they still have a bit of padding to protect against bumps.

...to keep dummies in the cot so I don't have to get up in the night...!
