mattresses: are the cheaper 'open spring' mattresses any good?

False economy. The more you pay the better the comfort. A mattress is very important for health and not worth compromising.

Assuming you mean standard double you want to be paying min £500 for the mattress and base.

How many times have I had to endure the spare bedroom cheapo mattress at friends houses where you feel the pain over every spring.

I paid £800 for my prev bed. And recently paid £600ish for the new mattress to fit the sleigh bed over 4 years ago. lovely x
