Playpen

I've got an extremely adventurous 7 month old boy (our first) who has just learnt to crawl. Do people still use playpens? If so, could anyone recommend a larger than average size playpen that would allow him to explore/move around safely? Any recommendatations greatly appreciated!

I think the Babydan one is bigger than most (although it looks kind of cage-like if I remember correctly!)

Hi daycaredad, we have the babydan but used it as a fireguard not a playpen!

DS1 learnt to crawl at 6 mths but instead of using a playpen we just totally child-proofed the downstairs of our house so he could crawl and explore far and wide and not injure himself!

Unless you have any burning need for a playpen (i.e. you have a dog) I would try and do without .

You have two options, depending on the size of your house. We have a Mamas & Papas playpen that doubles as a travel cot, that we bought from Argos. I only used it when I needed to nip upstairs to the bathroom or that sort of thing so DS was only in for very short periods (apart from when we used it as a travel cot). However, if you have a large living area, you could do what my friend did and buy one of those pens that partition off part of your living room and your DS can crawl around to his heart's content. EddieIzzardismyhero's idea is also workable if you can babyproof the downstairs of your house.

sorry, forgot to add that www.kiddicare.com is great for the larger playpens!

Ok, great advice. Many thanks!

Hi
I'm just about to buy a babydan one from kiddicare that has mesh sides so not cage like and it converts to room divider.

Now don't go buying the last one before me will you:-)
