Baby legionnaire sun hat that stays on!

I'm looking for a legionnaire hat for both DSs (DS1 will be a month off 3 and DS2 will be 6 months) for our holiday.

I'd also like it to have UPV protection and stay put on their head.

I wondered if anyone had seen any they could recommend?

Thanks

I just bought ordinary sunhats for the dc (double cotton, wide rim) and sew an elastic band on.

DD had a Baby Banz legionnaire hat which stayed on well. Very stretchy. Think they range from 3 months up to age 4. She now (age 3) has a Kidz Banz sunhat which adjusts to fit with a velcro tab. Stays on well, has a lovely wide brim and nice funky patterns/colours. Both have good UV protection.

Thanks for posting.

Sonilaa - my sewing skills (or rather lack of!) are somewhat to be desired unfortunately! Good idea and I wish I could.

SweetApril - I've seen those Baby Banz hats and they do look good. The legionnaire one covered the ears OK? Just the pictures online look like they are shaped around the ears (if that makes sense?). Also, did you find the sunhat, now your dd is older, shades enough of the face and back of the neck? They do look good.

I've got one that stays on well and definitely provides good shade on face, ears and neck. I'll have a look to see what make it is when I get home

My ds had a fab hat from John Lewis when he was that age, it had a chin strap with a popper on it

ohhh I am really bad at anything crafty... but honestly it is very easy (and on the underside of the hats you don*t see the funny stiching)

SweetApril · 25/05/2010 14:48

Yes, the legionnaire one covered the ears fine. The sunhat doesn't provide as much cover on the back of the neck as the legionnaires, obviously, and probably not as much on the face - maybe a bit of chin and a smidgen of neck peeping out in direct sun IYSWIM - but combined with suncream it's still very good coverage and fine for an everyday sunhat. The legionnaire one is great for swimming as it dries really quickly. And cos it's stretchy DD will still be able to wear hers this year even though she's had it since she was 1!

Thanks so much everyone for posting. I'll look into those legionnaires ones Sweetapril. Cheers

Allnew - I'll await to see what yours is too, before making a decision!

Thanks so much. Sometimes online, when you look at things to buy, too much choice makes decision harder! Thanks for posting

One trick we found when travelling with our friends' son was to use a sports hat-clip - they're usually a bit of cord between 2 small crocodile clips, so you can clip one end to the hat and one to the t-shirt. You can get them from many sports places. We found that it made life a lot easier because pulling his hat off was turning into a game and this stopped him throwing it away at least!
