Nothing at all to do with kids I know but I am after a set of these and was wondering which ones are the best.

GHD's were on Watchdog last week (?). Lots of people reporting injuroes from faulty straighteners 'sparking' on them

Grommit · 22/10/2003 19:19

LOVE mine - definitely worth the money!

kayleigh · 22/10/2003 20:00

Grommit, may have to do a product test next time I see you ! Couldn't think of anything for dh to buy me for my birthday but now ....

tamum · 01/11/2003 17:41

Can I just say thank you thank you thank you to all of you who told me to get these. Have just tried them properly, and look like I do when I have just emerged from the hairdressers. Mwah mwah to you all.
A happy tamum

bunny2 · 02/11/2003 13:37

Oh my, oh my, I want some NOW!! Hate my hair, tried to cut a fringe yesterday and it looks shit. I want, need and deserve these ceramic hair straighteners. Off to chat dh up ...

tamum · 02/11/2003 14:08

Bunny2, if it helps, I got the cheaper ones (HairTools) like Doormat's. They were about £35. As I don't have any GHD ones I can't do a comparison, but the ones I've got are great (as you might have guessed from my post yesterday )

jampot · 02/11/2003 14:11

My sister has very curly and wild hair - she has tried Futura (good for my slightly kinky hair) and GHD which she swears by. She can look like a slinky little thing using those. Previously to inheriting her Futura I had Babyliss (?????) which were worse than useless.

bunny2 · 02/11/2003 17:33

GHD can be used to make hair curly too, can the Hair Tools do the same?

Dinny · 02/11/2003 19:31

I've got those Babyliss ones that incorporate a comb (ok) but want GHDs now! Only thing is, what do you do with your other hand? Is there some sort of PULL on GHD to drag hair down straight (ie like in-built comb???

spacemonkey · 02/11/2003 20:24

No dinny, you just sandwich sections of hair in the ghd straighteners and stroke the hair downwards - it's no hassle

katierocket · 02/11/2003 20:25

I desperately want some of these but can't afford them. cheapest on ebay is £50 but there is 2 days to go so likely to go much higher.

I am the frizzmeister

tamum · 02/11/2003 20:34

Katierocket, I would really consider the Hair Tools ones, they're only about £35 on eBay, and I can't imagine how they could possibly be improved on (says she stroking her super-sleek hair, heh heh)

tigermoth · 02/11/2003 21:58

I'm getting hooked on this thread, too. Would these hair straighteners work on fine, quite thin, straight, but not sleek hair? oh please say yes!

Tigermoth - without a doubt, my hair is straight with a slight kink, thin but quite a bit of it, above shoulder length and Futura straighteners (about £45) work just fine. I don't wash my hair every day (I am a minger) and find that if I use straightening balm (Charles Worthington or one from Regis salon) the straightness just stays there so I don't have to bother straightening each day. The GHD ones leave my hair so straight I may blind my husband one day as he cuddles me!!

Aniles · 02/11/2003 23:33

Hi

A few of you have suggested oils and balms to put on hair after straightening to keep it straight, can anyone recommend something to put on the hair before straightening to protect it from the heat? I'm sure hair can't be completely undamaged by such high temperature, or can it?

jampot · 03/11/2003 15:38

I use Andrew Collinge "No Kinks Straightener" which says "Use this no kinks straightener when you want to transform your hair into a style thats seriously smooth & straight. It will straighten frizz prone kinky and difficult to control hair, adding a beautiful silky shine and leaving it poker straight and super smooth"... and it really does do that.

jampot · 03/11/2003 15:40

Sorry, it also says "contains a multi vitamin & UV filter complex to protect hair from heat styling and environmental damage." You use this on wet hair which you then blow dry and then straighten.

Mog · 09/11/2003 14:25

Dh says he will get me the ghd ones for Christmas, but while in Boots noticed they had ceramic ones by Remington for £25 and Vidal Sisson for £35. Anyone know if these do the job just as well i.e. is it the ceramic bit that does the business or have ghd got a 'special ingredient' ?

alibubbles · 09/11/2003 14:38

I have just bought DD the GHD ones, and she says they are fantastic! She had the Hairtools ones before, which were also very very good, but as her hair is nearly waist length I gave in and bought the GHD ones.

I offered her GHD ones originally but she said they were too expensive, they are cheaper in the long run!

I paid £89.95 on the net including some serum worth £7.95 and they cam next day

mears · 09/11/2003 22:14

My sister's dd had remmington ones and she says they absolutely fab.

crystaltips · 09/11/2003 22:37

I have just selected a pair on ebay ... I must be being thick but I am having trouble paying .... I want to pay by visa - but there does not seem to be a link ... HELP

tamum · 09/11/2003 22:39

The usual way to pay by Visa would be via Paypal, but you need to be registered with them first. Is that what you mean? You could put a link to the auction no. if you want, maybe you'd get better afvice?
