Nothing at all to do with kids I know but I am after a set of these and was wondering which ones are the best.

Resurrecting this thread as am finally fed up with frizzy hair and bad hair days. So am about to spend £95 on a pair of these GHD things after dh said he would happily pay £100 a MONTH for me to stop spending ages closeted with my hairdryer only for hair to look awful anyway and me to moan!

Those of you who had them, still happy? And any new users?

Northerner · 26/09/2003 16:59

I'm v v excited for you countess. Honestly you will NOT know how you managed with out them. If my house were to burn down, I would rescue, ds, hair straightners and dh! In no specific order :0

whatsaname · 26/09/2003 17:01

I'd like to add to this thread, apparently GHD are the best (sponser The Salon too) but I have a pair of ceramic straightners from SAKS and they are v good. They're £30 cheaper than GHD too. Most big towns seem to have a SAKS hair and beauty near them.

dunno if that helps

doormat · 26/09/2003 17:08

Countess as northerner says "you want know how you did without them".
I have the cheaper version but they are just as good as GHD.
It literally takes minutes and hair is left really sleeky.
After you have straightened try and find a wax, lotion to go over your hair that suits you.It keeps all the strays in place.

CountessDracula · 26/09/2003 17:16

God I'm getting so excited I'm starting to pant!

Want to go now and get them but have to wait till monday. I WANT THEM NOW NOW NOW!!!

doormat · 26/09/2003 17:18

I am excited for you countess, you will thank us on monday.

Grommit · 26/09/2003 17:44

I bought the GHD ones and they are fab - I had some old babyliss ones and had to straighten daily - GHD ones are much better - hair stays straight for days. Well worth the money - I bought the wider ones for thick hair...

fio2 · 26/09/2003 18:10

I need some too!!! what are the cheaper versions?? Dh would kill me if I spent that much on hair straighteners

Egypt · 27/09/2003 11:02

i've got the cheaper versions, HAIR TOOLS, they are just like GHD and were £45 from hairdressers.

Moomin · 27/09/2003 11:03

I got some Babylis ones from Boots - £30 I think and they've been great.

Mooma · 28/09/2003 08:14

Please take care with the ceramic straighteners.
dd aged 16 has a terrible scar on her hand from a burn caused by careless use
(She loves her straight hair though).
Please keep them away from little dd's.

I did buy them. Can't believe I didn't buy them years ago. My life is transformed. Am the happiest (and shallowest) person in the world. My hair has caused me so much grief and now I never have to worry again.

Feel like doing Julie Andrews style leaping around hills singing.

I'm thinking of asking for the GHD ones for Christmas but could someone quantify for me how much better they might be than the normal straightners I've got now. I've got wavy hair.

CountessDracula · 16/10/2003 20:59

Mog I should say at least 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 percent

I am not kidding, the diff is amazing. I washed my hair a couple of weeks ago when it was raining. This is usually a recipe for disaster, I blow dry, use crappy normal straighteners and as soon as I step outside the door, even with a brolly, I look like crazed bag lady.

This time, I rough dried it with a hairdryer then tonged it with the GHDs for about 10 mins and it looked fab. (as opposed to spending about 40 mins drying and tonging) I went out with dd, it rained for 10 mins, I was out in it with no brolly, got home and my hair was STILL AS STRAIGHT AS A POKER!!!

Got a tiny bit frizzy when it dried so I gave it another going over before going out and it was immaculate.

All I can say is buy those tings.

emsiewill · 17/10/2003 20:38

Do you think it's possible that my ceramic hair straighteners have killed the nits in my hair? I'm sure I had them - dd1 & dd2 both did, but when I combed my hair, couldn't find even one. Is it the heat, or something?

magnum · 17/10/2003 20:44

I asked for ceramic straighteners for Christmas last year. I explained to my dh that the ceramic plates make them far superior to the ones I had (Babyliss straight and shine)I saw a likely looking box under the tree, ripped open the paper with anticipation and I got.... Babyliss straight and shine... with ceramic COATED plates. Not quite the same at all - but I suppose its the thought that counts.

BigBird · 22/10/2003 16:30

got the GHD ones too and LOVE them. They are fab.

One question....do you all put oil/anything on your hair before you use them ? I use them about once or twice a week on dry hair and haven't been using anything. Have seen GHD oil and wondering if it's worth getting ?

CountessDracula · 22/10/2003 16:32

I find it good Bigbird and you only use a tiny bit so it goes a long way. Stops it going electric and keeps it straighter for longer

Beccarollo · 22/10/2003 16:35

GHD oil is meant to be very oily and a bit much - Kerastase oleo relax serum is really good as is L'anza thermal defence

Add my vote to the GHDs being 500000000000 times better than other straighteners

CountessDracula · 22/10/2003 16:36

Beccarollo I have fairly dry hair so the oil is good for me. I guess if your hair is naturally oily then it may not be so good

God, the power of suggestion on a feeble mind- it has never occurred to me to use hair straighteners, ever, but now I've read this thread I am convinced that it will change my life. But, just before I splurge yet more money, can I get some advice? I don't have frizzy hair, just wayward, strong waves in the wrong direction kind-of-thing. I need to blow dry it to stand any chance of looking reasonable. Would this be the kind of thing that hair straighteners would help with? (please say yes, I have the eBay results of search page open in another window)

CountessDracula · 22/10/2003 17:10

YES YES YES! That is my hair exactly, and they have changed my (shallow) life! Watch out for cheap imitations.
