Does anyone know where I can buy a sponge you place the baby on to bath? If so what age are these suitable from and did you find it helpful? My Dd is 4 1/2 and I feel quite wary of bathing a newborn in a few weeks!

Mothercare used to do a floaty beanbag thing ("Deluxe bath float" I think was it's proper name) which was superb. It dried really quickly too. You could hold the mat with one hand and wash the baby with the other. In fact, you could let go of the mat completely and your non rolling baby would simply float gently in the bath (in not very much water and with one hand close by at all times - useful for opening shampoo or whatever)

I'm not sure if they still sell them (it was 4 years ago that I got mine)

They make an awful mess if they burst though...

Don't they do it any more? Have just googled baby bath sponge and the reviews on ebay are from 2001 - don't tell me it's been discontinued, it was brilliant, I used it for about 6 months with mine!

Good luck, colette, keep looking.

I had one of those sponges, it has a sort of indent to place the baby in. I think I did get mine from Mothercare, or if not good ol' John Lewis

Mine came from Tesco, and has been used from about 2 weeks in the "big bath" with ds1 (2y 3m). Ds2 is only 7 weeks and it works a treat.

Theres a baby bath float here - you need to put bath in search.

We used one of those towelling 'deckchair' things. It was fantastic and we used that in the baby bath. DS just used to lie there and move his arms and legs.

Would definitely use that again especially as it keeps their head above the water while the rest of their body is under.

We got ours from the NCT catalogue.

We had a basic shaped foam float from Mothercare. Cost about £10 I think. They still had it last time I had the catalogue.

We got a plastic sloped seat in the end from PHP or Baby Catalogue . It suctioned on to the bottom of the bath and supported baby under their arms. I used it 'till DD was about 8 or 9 months old. Found this even more useful as you didn't have to have hold of baby constantly.

We used the same as Gem13 and loved it. The nice thing is that you can take the toweling off and wash it.

Thanks for all your replies,
I hadn't realised there was so much choice. I will enjoy looking in more detail tomorrow.
Goodnight
