Can you recommend me a wooden train set?

I'm thinking of getting one for ds who will be two. He loves trains and I think would get a lot of use out of it. I want something wooden, something that is compatible with the kind of trains you can buy in most shops and something that we can continue to add to over the years. Can anyone recommend one to me please?

If you want a cheap basic set which you can add to with more expensive bits, Tesco do a set for £10. here

The Ikea sets are good and don't cost much. All the wooden ones fit together, ELC, Ikea, Tesco, Brio etc so just take your pick really.

Brio. My brother started his Brio train collection at around 2yo, in 1988. He has added to it over the years, passed it on for us to add to, and 22 years, and 4 boys later it is still going strong. Fabulous!

As he's only two, maybe something really simple like THIS to begin with, and add to for christmas and birthdays to come.

Otherwise THIS is a lovely first set, and includes people, trees etc as well as the train and track.

We've got the John Lewis one and it's been great - good quality and half the price of BRIO.

It's been consistently popular in our house, sometimes even with the DCs and has been supplemented by IKEA bits and the occasional Thomas Wooden World thing from generous grandparents.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I've looked them all up and there are some brilliant options. I really like the look of the JOhn Lewis one. Thanks again for the recommendations.
