..have been reading old threads and have just about convinced myself to try a mooncup but am not sure about size ... I've had 2 elective secctions and am over 30 but will I really need the bigger size? Even the small one sounds too big!! Thanks!

sorry... ebay

Basketcase, I have only once dislodged my Mooncup, and that was when I had a very full bladder and a tummy-bug, and I was desperately crossing everything to try and get to a toilet in time. I think that my body was trying so hard to expel stuff that the Mooncup got pushed almost all the way out - but I didn't lose it or leak a drop (well, not of 'that' anyway! ). I've cycled and swum with it, and I do acrobatic tumbling with my children as well - well, they tumble, I'm the base of the pyramid, the springboard, and so on. No problems whatsoever.

Personally, I find sanitary protection pretty unsavoury stuff whatever people choose to use!

Pads are the one thing I find totally gross - far more so than the cups. But it's personal choice - and pads don't work for me because, well...tmi, but shall we just say they'd need to be the size of a duvet for me to bother!

I absolutely love my diva cup. Just wish it was a prettier colour! It's brown opaque rubber, and I'd prefer turquoise silicone or something like that, but since I'm the only one who sees it, it seems silly to buy another.

I find it incredibly convenient and easy to use, bit it did take me a month or 2 to get used to. It's especially good for when you're expecting your period any day, just pop it in and check it every 12 hours or so.

I wouldn't change mine in a public toilet. It makes a schwerllp! noise when it comes out and I don't want to be washing thick red goo out of it while someone puts on their lipstick at the next sink.

It's in very securely because it's a suction cup so yes you can do anything in it. It's more secure than a tampon.

suzywong · 01/08/2005 11:16

ok I take it this is a gloves off thread - what about it you get clots, you know what I mean, how would it cope with those and how would you rinse those buggers away? Hmmmmmm?

Yikes. Even I'm out of my depth now. Do you mean ordinary mucousy bits or actual liver-like clots?

There's a fair bit of room in the cup.

Warning TMI coming up .....

I only have the mucousy stuff myself but I'm sure the mooncup would cope with small livery bits.
Not post partum, just normal periods of course.

Millie1 · 01/08/2005 11:50

How long do they take to mail them out - anyone remember?

RedZuleika · 01/08/2005 11:51

I've never heard of these things until I saw the MN homepage today...

One question: I've tried both a diaphragm and a cap in the past and got UTIs with both. Is there not a reasonable chance of getting cystitis with this as well?

Up the duff at the moment, so not a pressing issue - but thought I'd factfind for some indefinable point in the future...

lydz · 01/08/2005 12:16

Haven't found clots an issue since using the Mooncup (only used it for a couple of months though). It does seem to shorten my period - strange. If you're in a public toilet just empty it down the toilet, wipe it with some tissue and reuse, you can wash it out properly later.

spidermama · 01/08/2005 12:21

I would've thought it's more likely to be the gel rather than the cap and diaphragm itself which can contribute to cystitis Red. I used to react a bit with the cap, but never have with the mooncup.

Millie1 · 01/08/2005 12:27

Spidermama, Lydz ... can you remember how long it took between ordering and receiving it? TIA
