is it a good car for the year? what is the fuel consumption like? would be best if you talk in terms of miles per tank as I am not great on the whole mpg stuff .

We had a W reg V70 until recently - not sure what year that is . Ours was automatic and did about 400 miles to a (large) tank which was a bit useless really. Had loads of space in it though It also started getting problems with its engine so we got rid of it. Had lovely heated seats as well .

Oh this is just a bit older than that. 400 is better than ours!. We have a car which does 270 to a £60 tank , considering the volvo as a friend is offering theirs to us at a cheap price.

A tank of Volvo petrol used to cost at least about £80 I think - something horrible anyway. And worse by now I presume. It was great for the amount of child related gubbins we used to have - DC are 6 and 4 now and don't need so much stuff. I think your DC are about 3 and a bit and some number of months?

We have an R reg V70 at the moment - whatever year that is. It passed its MOT last month but not likely to pass another, despite it being looked after before we were given it, it's "very tired".

DH says it likes dual carriageway/motorway driving better than tootling around town (i don't drive)

He reckons 400 ish miles - it's a LARGE tank

Thanks guys. I am thinking it is probably not any better than our current car tbh atm. We have a 1.8 freelander which is not driving at its best, but has passed its MOT (with a little work) and we know what needs doing to keep it going for now. (it is a W reg).

We go on lots of trips, not all motorway driving, lots of country lanes, long distances but done at varying speeds. But I have not been to see for example my brother in Durham for a long time as it is too expensive to drive that far in the freelander! You are right noah blimey! yes DD is 3.8 and DS is almost 5 months, we go camping a lot, so need the space for my box of swathes all our stuff. Oh and we have a kayak.

Also, this car is petrol not diesel, has done 170k miles but DH said this is not so bad as it is an automatic with cruise control. It has perfect service history, one owner before this friend (his anal dad who is meticulous about upkeep).

He is offering it to us for £1000. Which is the deal i guess, as it is cheap.

Thanks for the heads up everyone.

and noah it is probably about the same as ours then? ours is about £60-65 currently to fill, and we get about 250-270 miles from that (depending on if it is me or DH driving).
