toddler in booster seat?

Hello, does anyone know if a two and a half year old is allowed to travel in a car using a booster seat? If they have reached the 15 kg weight requirement is age a restriction?

I think the toddler will need a high backed booster at the very least. Why do you want to put a toddler on a booster as opposed to a car seat?

I would use a high backed booster (and have done for ds as he was too heavy for his harness by 2 1/2) but not just a booster cushion as it doesnt position the seatbelt correctly at the neck.

no, you can put them in a booster as long as they are the correct weight
but it won't be as safe, and i'm not sure why you would want to risk it tbh

sorry clicked post too soon

it's best to keep them rear-facing preferably, or at least forward facing with a 5 point harness for as long as possible. most forward facing seats go up to at least 18kg with the harness

It is the weight that is the determining factor in car seats. The minimum weight for most booster seats is 15kg, therefore yes a two and a half year old can travel on a booster seat, as long as they weigh at least 15kg.

However as other have said, it is so much safer for them to be in a proper seat, or at least a high backed booster, which will offer much more protection in an accident, particularly side impact protection.

Have a look at www.carseatinfo.co.uk for some useful tips and advice!

I would personally not put a child on a regular booster until at least around six years of age, preferably much older.

Thank you all for your replies.(esp ss) I use the car seat normally of course, but just wondered about a booster seat for short journeys in other peoples cars. But think I will stick to fitting in my own car seat.
