Hi

I am hoping to get an XC90 - love, love, love them.

Just wondered how you honestly find them to manouevre & park? I currently have a largish estate car, so used to something fairly sizeable.

Anything else I should consider when chosing which model etc?

Thanks in advance

(And no, I don't need anyone to lecture me about 4x4s, environment etc - my money, my choice of car, thanks!)

Hope you get some good advice and answers as im going to get one in about 4 months time, Currently drive an old merc 7 seater eclass but just wanted something a bit more er, substantial - i am ttc #5 so will need the seats anyway. Does anyone find that the petrol version is super expensive to run? My Merc is a 2.5 petrol and i was really thinking about getting the diesel in the XC90 just for econonmy really? Whats the consensus with other owners?

I have had one for two years and love it. Mine is a diesel and its not hugely economical - I get about 24-25mpg but I think that is comparable with anything else of that size and its certainly a lot cheaper to run than the discovery I had before. Servicing is cheaper too. There are five of us and a dog plus we often have other kids in for school run so I love the seven seats.

One option which is well worth having if you can afford it is the rear view camera which comes on automatically when reversing. Otherwise the rear vision is pretty restricted at low levels. Handling wise its fine, I find it a very comfortable drive and I do a pretty high annual mileage. Obviously the power steering helps. Overall I would certainly buy another one when this one expires which I hope will not be for some time yet as volvo's tend to be pretty long lived.

Thanks 3mum that is helpful - you are never quite sure what the true fuel consumption is. I'll certainly look into the rear view camera.

Thanks 3mum - same here, i will make sure it either has parking sensors or a rear view mirror, i dont think it sounds much different in terms of mpg to my current car.

Even the most basic model has rear parking sensors That's what we have.

I love it. If you can cope with a largish estate you'll be fine with the XC90 once you get used to it after a couple of days.

Not sure what your budget is/whether you want new or used, but there were some fantastic deals on new ones a couple of months ago when we got ours. Around £10k off the list price. Have a look at www.drivethedeal.com. It was cheaper to buy a brand new one than a 2 year old one

amazonianwoman · 15/04/2010 23:43

Oh, and ours is diesel and averages 30mpg.

Thanks amazonian - hoping for new! I am looking for deals - will check out drive the deal.
