My 4.6 yr old dd1 has a 12 inch bike at the moment. It is clearly getting too small and we are thinking of getting her a bigger one for her 5th birthday. It isnt clear to me which size i should be replacing it with? Is 16 inch ok? doesnt look that much bigger? she still needs stabilisers. any experiences gratefully received. thanks.

If she can't ride without stabilisers then stick with the bike she has. Even if her knees are up by her elbows; she needs to find it extremely easy to get her feet to the ground fast in order to lose the stabilisers. When she can ride an undersized bike without stabs, then she will be ready to move up to the correct size (you could ask a bike shop to advise, it depends on her height at that point, probably 18" wheels).
