I dropped my iphone and the screen has shattered. The phone still works fine. Replacing it is too expensive an option and I didn't have it insured (stupid I know0. Can it be repaired?

yes it can be but it is expensive. you can buy the screen yourself and replace using a youtube tutorial - really compliacted - but otherwsie you can find people to repair it. because it's a touch screen it is tricky. we decided against repairing our ds itouch (same screen) after he dropped it though. he has clingfilmed it and it still works!

LOL I hadn't thought of cling film.

Bum. That is annoying. I have dropped mine countless times and it has never damaged the screen.

I can only advise going into an Apple store and asking for advice. Go online first and get an appointment for their poncily named 'Genius Bar' otherwise you may get sent away and asked to come back. You can do this on the Apple uk website.

Mine was dropped by DS suddenly developed a crack in the back of the phone and they exchanged it for a new one. It was fairly new so it may depend on how old your phone is.

I don't think that it can be repaired.

Can I go into the Apple shop even though I got on contract with Orange?

"Genuis Bar" sounds gimicky and stupid.

I have used these for my ipod touch. they were excellent.

MmeLindt · 10/03/2010 11:20

Yes, I think so. I bought my phone from the Apple store on a contract from Orange.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/03/2010 12:11

But I got mine from orange

I don't know the system in UK, I am in Switzerland.

But I would try it. If you go into Orange they will shrug and tell you that it will cost you.

If you try the Apple store then they may be able to help you. If you have one nearby that is not a hassle to get to I would give it a go.

Am sniggering at an Apple phone from Orange.

paulaplumpbottom · 10/03/2010 12:41

lol didn't think of it that way.

MrCSWS - good prices on that link - ds has to pay for it though so he may still find it too pricey (he threw it up into air and surprise surprise didnt catch it )

ClaireDeLoon · 11/03/2010 11:57

I bought mine in an o2 shop and apple replaced it when I cracked the screen.

4andnotout · 11/03/2010 12:20

I have booked a genius bar appoinmtent for Saturday as my screen is coming away from the back, it is realy crackly when it vibrates and one of the speakers isn't working, i'm hoping they can repair or replace there and then as the carphone warehouse where we got it from wanted to send it away for 28 days and give me a shitty basic mobile whilst I still pay my iPhone tarriff!
