People carriers

The Cam belt has gone on our lovely Renault Scenic. It is not worth repairing as the car is 10 years old. It was a lovely car with nice leather seats, air conditioning and multi CD changer. It was also nice to drive. My only gripe was mechanical reliablity. We had problems with electrics several times.

We cannot afford to buy new and are prepared to go up to 8K. My husbands wants to look at other makes. I want a similar level of comfort to the Renault Scenic privilage range. What do people suggest?

The Mazda people carrier is meant to be very good I think it is called Mazda 5.

I think the Ford S Max has come top in the reviews though

How much does it cost to repair a CAM belt? Surely a lot less than 8k?
How many children do you have, R-tired?

It would be about 2K for a new engine. When a cam belt snaps the engine gets totally trashed. I don't think its worth spending 2K on a car that is 10 years old and has quite a high milage. I would rather spend the money on a newer car.

We have two children, but we want a third. Also we often transport cousins as well. We don't need seven seats, but we need the ablity to put three car seats across the back. The Renault Scenic we had was ideal in many ways except for mechanical reliablity.
