which would you choose and why and what colour would you get?! (not sure if I've got the choice but I might have later in the year) love to hear your thoughts esp. if you've got one of them!

FIAT stands for Fix It Again Tommorrow! so by default i would go for the mini, fiats are well known by mechanics to have electric problems

mozette · 06/03/2010 18:01

Mini all the way - in black!

bran · 06/03/2010 18:10

I have an unnatural longing for a cream Fiat 500 with red leather seats with cream piping. I think it's because it's so incompatible with children and I currently drive a mummy-mobile which is nice but dull. I'm less keen on Minis which have grown and don't look as cute as they once did.

yumimummi · 06/03/2010 18:21

I always choose black for cars - should I break the mould?? Maybe I should get a bit wild and crazy?!! I like cream a lot but a friend has recently got a cream mini so can't 'copy' (sigh), unless I got a different colour on the roof or something! My DH is more interested in mechanical stuff - so thanks Goddess - DS would die of shame if I collected from school in a pink car DD would be happy... Give me more ladies!!

I found that my black car showed the dirt worst of any car that I've had. Silver shows the dirt least IMO but I don't really like silver much. I really like the colour that I have now, it's a metallic blue-dark grey.

Of the colours on the Fiat website I like Cha Cha Cha Azure or cream (which I think they call Bossa Nova White).

mozette · 06/03/2010 21:17

oh yes cream Fiat 500!

lagrandissima · 06/03/2010 21:19

Maybe look at the crash test data. Dull but important. Both cars look cute as (IMHO), my first one was a 500 but old school - much prefer the modern ones (or are they seicentos?)

tartyhighheels · 06/03/2010 21:23

Generally I would hate either of these because they are small but if i had to choose i would always choose a mini because at least they have cool styling and are INCREDIBLY safe. Apparently safer per pound of weight than a landrover.

and black always always always

beansontoast · 06/03/2010 21:32

my dp says that the mini has high CO2 emissions....same as a big beamer according to him.

i love a fiat

bluebump · 06/03/2010 21:33

A mini but it would be hard to choose between a mini and a Fiat 500, I always used to want one of the old ones too.

BikeRunSki · 06/03/2010 21:39

We had a "new" mini for 4 years, and all it ever needed was servicing.Very reliable. Good fun to drive too. Only went because we needed a bigger car. It was red with white bonnet stripes, mirrors and roof.

pushmepullyou · 06/03/2010 21:52

I think it's only the cooper s that has the high CO2 emissions. Certainly the diesel is very low - only £30 to tax.

I have had 3 minis (cooper, cooper s and cooper diesel), although I have a golf now and loved loved loved them . Very safe. Very economical, particularly the new ones with the stop/start technology. Got 70 mpg from my cooper diesel.

Very safe, very reliable, very solid and very good handling. I've driven a cinqucento a few times and found it to be much less well put together, rattly, dodgy handling and much less reliable.

Thanks everyone - will definitely check out the safety stats and emissions stats. I think the Fiats look really cute, but perhaps a mini will be more reliable & safe. Tartyhighheels - I want one BECAUSE it is small . I have to drive my dcs everywhere and I can never park - only got looong estate at the mo and driving me a bit bananas when I'm only nipping up the road to school etc. and end up parking miles away or driving around until I find a gap for my overlong car.. (too far to walk/cycle before anyone gets upset!) Lots of the mums drive even bigger 4x4's and no one can pass each other on the road where the school is etc. I want to rebel - so jealous of all the nippy little cars I see getting into tiny spaces - even the rubbish ones - but trying to think beyond which car is prettiest - even though that is the fun bit!

What about a Fiat Panda? We have its much bigger brother - a doblo!!

MrsJohnDeere · 08/03/2010 10:01

Out of those two I'd get the mini - looks nicer, safer in a crash, more fun to drive, although it will be much more ££ to buy and insure I imagine.

We were debating getting a Mini or a Fiat 500 and have decided against both. I was convinced (by MNers in a thread on here) that 3 rather than 5 doors would be really irritating.
I'm now planning on getting a Fiesta or Mazda 2 - still small to park but 5 doors.
