Arrange online delivery of bed on a certain day?

Hi, I wasn't really sure where to post this - but hoping that someone can help.

We are moving to a new house and don't have any way to get beds in before we arrive. Our options are a) pick up airbeds and get to ikea or wherever as soon as we can b) arrange for an online delivery of a bed or mattress on the day we move in! We are moving from overseas so our furniture will take a couple of weeks.

It doesn't have to be a great bed - just a bed of some sort - as it will become our spare bed once we get more settled.

I'm having big problems finding an online shop that can guarantee delivery on a particular day though. Does anyone have any suggestions? Was hoping Ikea would do it, but their delivery dates seem a bit random!

I feel we are likely to end up sleeping on the floor!

Thanks!

we had a next bed delivered and they offered a set date. had to wait 2 weeks though

we went with www.mattressman.co.uk/delivery.aspx company - they were brilliant (compared to another one who were a complete nightmare and failed to deliver at all). You can specify the day.

They are based in East Anglia - but deliver nationwide I think.

You could also just get the mattress and sort out a bed later.

I think it might be worth checking on Thomson Local or similar and find a small (non-chain) shop if possible, near the new home.

Have you no relations / friends living there (or future work colleagues) who might be able to recommend a local shop ?

Just that I'd (a) expect a local shop to be more flexible to meet your date and (b) they would be close enough for you to go to the shop and make a fuss if they weren't with you by say 4pm... compared with an online store that may have a warehouse 100 miles away...

Thanks so much guys!

Mattress Man looks perfect, and its a great idea just to arrange for the mattress on the first day and worry about the bed frame later. Makes a lot of sense.

I also found a company called david phillips who do next day delivery and have sofas/tables etc.

I knew Mumsnet would come up with the answer!
