ISOFIX - isn't the point supposed to be that it is a universal fitting?

Can anyone help me with this? We have a new Ford C-max (Sept 09) and are about to have ISOFIX fitting fitted. However, since I have just been looking for a new carseat, as DS is now 1yo and almost out the top of his baby carseat, it appears that there are hardly any ISOFIX car seats that are compatible with our car . Is there somewhere I can look to find a definitive list of which car seats will go in our car? The britax website doesn't even have the C-mas listed! Isn't the whole point of ISOFIX that it is one type of fitting that fits all (hence the prefix of ISO?). Does anyone else have the same car and has managed to find an ISOFIX seat that fits?
Many Thanks in advance.

Oh right, thanks for that. will have a look. Thought it was strange as the S-max is listed, but not the C-max!

Hi. I believe the In Car Safety Centre run by Essex County Council (but a free service to people outside Essex too!) offers excellent impartial help and advice on just this sort of matter. Here is a link. This whole site looks quite helpful, actually.

be careful if you have underfloor storage in your car as no foot props can be used on these, which most isofix car seats have! not sure why so many 'family cars' have these! we ended up getting a britax two way elite for our car with the underfloor storage and it is rock solid when fitted and we have been really happy with it.
