Has anyone got a child seat that goes on the FRONT of their bike? Is it any good?

Want to fit my bike with a seat for ds2 who is quite a heavy lad. Have been looking at the one's that go on the front and wondered if they are any good or do they make it awkward to ride??

We have WeeRide, which my dh has on the front on his mountain bike,my dd2 uses it,she is 2.11 & has SN,at the moment she fits in the seat no probs, she wears piedro boots, which are like mini Doc Martens & they only just fit in the foot rests.
I put the WeeRide on my bike the other day for the first time & found it quite easy to ride the bike with her on it,I am only small and found the weight no problem or reaching around her for the handlebars or seeing over her head, but I suspect this will be the last year we will use it.Which is sad,as it is a brilliant piece of kit, much better than the seats that are fitted to the back of your bike,as you cannot see what the LO's are up to!!
Oh,by the way,you do have to slightly adapt your riding style,as in riding with your legs wider apart, but it's not at all difficult & you soon get used to it.

We also have a weeride, DD is 17 months and fits fine and loves it, she evens sleep in it as it has a little head rest. it comes with its own cross bar so will fit to most bikes and its great to be able to see what they are up to.

DH has it on his bike most of the time, he's tall (6'3") and doesn't have any major probs with her being in the way, although he does have to adjust his riding style a bit.

Third vote for the weeride. I've just got one and dd and i both love it. I'm not a regular bike rider by any means but i feel comfortable and confident riding with her in it, and don't find it affects the balance at all. The only other thing to be aware of is that you have to have your seat lower than you normally would as you can't pop off the front of the seat to put your feet down when you stop, you need to be able to reach the floor when sitting down. This, combined with the slightly altered riding style would probably mean your legs would tire more quickly on a long or hilly ride. Worth it though for the advantages of balance, safety and enjoyment for your ds. It's great for them to be able to talk to you and see everything, much better than staring at your bum!
