car seat for Porsche

does anyone have a Porsche 944 and a 20 month old ? We bought a britax ranger car seat for the back (little bucket seats) but my son can just pull his arm out of the straps. Having read a previous chat it seems as if this is a common problem but I wondered if anyone had tried a different car seat in a 944 with more success ?

What about trying a Britax Supercruiser (the polystyrene one) that just uses the car seat belt strapped across and you tighten it above the shoulder. About £50 I think.

I saw a god seat today in Mothercare World, it is like the Ranger but also has a five point integral harness. I too had to give up on the Ranger in the back of a Mercedes 320 convertible, I also felt she wasn't secure enough and yes she could escape, a nightmare with the roof down!It is Mothercares own and cost about £50, you can take the harness off later on and the back of the seat to make it just a booster. I wish I'd seen it before I laid out £200 on 2 Britax Elites. they're very good but heavy. The Mothercare one was just what I was looking for.

I have a Porsche 911 and I bought my car seats from the Porsche Dealer. They are Porsche carseats and have a microchip in them so you can sit your child in the front seat and the airbag automatically gets deactivated. THe car had to go into the garage for half a day to fit this special Airbag deactivation unit. The Porsche car seats fit perfectly into the bucket seats in the back too. THe names of them are Porsche Baby Safe which is like a "rock a tot", Porsche Prince and Porsche Zoom. Your local dealer will be able to advise you.

Alibubbles - I also have an SL500 and regarding my Porsche message Mercedes do their own range along the same idea, microchip that switches the airbags off.

I hope the Porsche seats are better designed than the Mercedes ones. I've got an Mercedes SLK so have to have their car seat to de-activate the passenger airbag (only 2 seats so chucking dd in the back isn't an option) and I've decided the car will have to go because the seat design is so poor:
It's not high enough for dd to see out of the window, it has a 'lap tray' which acts as a chest protector that is covered in non-removeable fabric (described as 'spongeable'!) but the worst bit about it is that it uses the car seat belt to fix it and my not yet 2 year old has worked out how to pull the belt sufficiently to escape.

So, to anyone out there who might be considering one, think again or buy a straightjacket at the same time.

PS For sale: one immaculate SLK (apart from the bread sticks in inaccessible places), one lady owner etc etc. Only joking, dh can't wait to swap with me...

Twink, haven't had that problem yet with undoing seatbeat, but I have put on my seatbelts great little devices from the Great Little Trading Company called Safeclips, they are designed to help prevent the accidental release of the seat belt by small children, but will not hinder the buckle in the event of an emergency. Item number is G1102 £5.99 - Orderline is 08702414080 or gltc.co.uk.. Try these out before deciding to sell your nice car!!

Mima, which car seat did you get ? I was interested in the one age 9 months to 4 years - apparently the table part is an extra that you may want to use up to a certain age, my local dealer said you could stop using it at 4 which is when they're too big for the seat anyway !

Cawthorne - we have the Porsche Prince which I use if my son is travelling in the front and the Porsche Zoom which I use with seatbeat if he is in the bucket seat in the back. Using the Zoom in the back seems to give him more room.

Thanks Mima, how old is your son ? do you think he'd be squashed in the back with the table ?

He will be 3 in August and is quite big for his age. He sits okay in the front with the table on it but when he is in the back he gets upset, feeling of being too squashed in I think.

success for anyone intereseted a Klippan Sportiva £89 from halfords does the trick, fits the bucket seat and has a five point harness, you can switch to just using the car seat belt when they get a bit bigger. That saved £60 on the Porsche price - enough to fill the car up now ! thanks for all your help

I own a Porsche 911. Can anyone please recommend a pushchair that will fit in the boot?

mrsh, I am sure most stores like mothercare will let you and one of their assistants take a pushchair out to your car to try it in the boot.

When we bought a pram the assistant said we could immediatley return it for a full refund if it didn't fit in the boot.(they had offered to come out with us to try it in but the car was parked too far away)

Hope this helps

Hello

I have a 9 month old baby and I am looking for the table part of the Porsche Junior seat. Can anyone tell me I can buy this separately or if you can only get it with the seat? I bought the seat from a friend and the can't find the table part( only after I bought it).

Hi! I have a Bugatti Veyron but my nanny is complaining because she has to lie in the engine compartment, which she says gets a bit hot. Can you believe the cheek of the girl?

Sorry. ladies, couldn't resist
