Every time I buy something from them they store my card details and renew things that expire without my authorisation.

Their systems are really complicated so that some things they will only authorise by telephone.

They will not offer credits/refunds for products that you don't want, and won't transfer hosting packages, which other companies will do.

AND if you miss the renewal period for a domain they charge £200 admin fee for renewal, when normally this only takes an email to a nice support person.

Don't use them! They are crap!

Glad you feel better, but definitely not my experience with them, and I've used them for umpteen years now, for the (few remaining) .uk domains I manage.

However, I've never hosted sites with firms I use for registration (I avoid .uk domains, and it generally works out cheaper to transfer a domain from one firm to another for .com / .org and since most domains expire in 2014 and later, the issue of automatic renewal doesn't come up).

For domains, I get renewal warnings and at that point one can cancel or renew. Admittedly I don't know about hosting with Webfusion.

If you miss a .uk renewal, Nominet raises an invoice for 80 + VAT, so a 200 quid fee is excessive.

I must say that I prefer 123-reg over ukreg.com (Fasthosts) which seemed to get over complicated in terms of security (added extra 'management' account and password and for the life of me, despite being able to login to control domains, I couldn't get into the more important areas to change credit card details, so I just moved the domains off to 123-reg where it works fine for me).

Also, had used 1and1 years back but they lied to me (claiming Nominet did not allow use of PO Box in address, when it was just the 1and1 system), and had some rather silly handling of invoices - first one had 30 days grace, so invoice was well after registration date, and then they took the renewal fee a full month before the renewal date, so charge was levied before I could tell them I wanted to cancel or move (8+ years ago, never touched them since).

In the USA 1and1 offered 3 years free hosting (to grab market share) but blocked non-US/Canada customers from taking up the deal (and if you do use them, be aware the servers are not in the UK, but their homeland, Germany). I did get hosting, as I have friends over in LA and Boston, but now use other firms, hosting my sites in Texas, NY, or Chicago.
