Phil n teds! How much? Where from?

lunavix · 05/07/2005 14:33

So I think I'm converted...

Main attraction for us is downsizing - we can get the phil n teds and use it as a three wheeler and a double therefore selling current single 3 wheeler and marco sky.

But where do I get it from? Are there -gasp- shops in the UK that sell it or is it strictly online only ?

And (deep breath) how much am I going to pay?

Had a quick nose on ebay, 'lightly used' ones are going (with doubles kit) for about £285, new singles for the same, but I'm fussy and they're in red which I don't like!

Also what do I need? Want it for two toddlers atm, BUT we're planning a second baby asap. Should I just get the baby bits now? Will they definately be available in the future??

Dunno, but will be interested in responses b/c DD will be 2.5 when no. 2 arrives, and she's no fan of walking long distances . . .

popmum · 05/07/2005 14:55

my friend got hers online - not sure where from - but looked in store at bush babes (in Ware, herts and mill hill, london) - the price online was about 60-70 £ less, so she asked about price matching, which they did. She loves it (has a new born and 2 year old)

Got ours here ... here

Good service and nice lady happy to give advice over phone. And reasonable delivery charges!

bluebear · 05/07/2005 15:51

Kiddicare are doing them quite cheaply on-line. We cheated and dh picked one up in the states when he was there on business.

As for baby bits - the little bag thing seems to be a waste of money for a summer baby (although might be nice and snug for a winter one) - and the babies i've heard of have out-grown it really fast. We just put a £10 pram mattress in the flat seat of ours and covered dd with a pram blanket................
Haven't missed not having the sunshade either - but the rain cover has been useful
I found the pannier bags really useful when it's in sibling mode (2 toddlers) as then the footwell is taken up with feet and no space for shopping. - that said it is so easy to push I can push it with one hand and hold a shopping bag in the other.

(I've got to sell mine soon - ds will be 4 in a couple of weeks and I am running out of excuses.

Chuffed · 05/07/2005 16:31

daisy and tom's has them in chelsea if you want to look.
lunavix can I ask what is wrong with the Marco Sky?

lunavix · 05/07/2005 19:13

bluebear - how much will you want for it??

chuffed - it just isn't sturdy enough really. It's such a simple little pushchair, which is lovely. But with my mindees in it, or ds and one mindee, it is SO heavy. If you don't have a change bag on the back, you can't get up a curb (you have to knee it to get it up) plus the front wheels buckle badly if they catch on something. I've heard that's pretty common in marco skys, at least this model.

Having said that, as far as a stroller goes, it's perfect. For shopping and stuff it would be great, especially if you are going places in the car and need it when you get there. As I don't drive I walk EVERYWHERE and I need a pushchair much more heavy duty!

There's a website called Practical Pushchairs or something, that do them with doubles kit for 374.99. They're 399.00 in our local shop, but they matched the other price for my friend.
How much are they in the states? Would it be worth getting a friend to ship one over here do you think?
I'm a bit gutted to read your opinion of the Marco Sky, as after a couple of weeks research I had concluded that this was my best option, seeing as I cant afford an E3!!!

MarsLady · 05/07/2005 19:30

don't you use the little step looking thing on the back to help you get up the curbs? I step lightly on it and the buggy goes up the curb like a dream.

Completely love my Marco Sky. Totally biased!

bluebear · 05/07/2005 19:30

I'm not sure Lunavix - been trying not to think about it - was going to ebay it. I can tell you that it's the blue/charcoal version 2.

We have to get a replacement single buggy first - looking at the nipper but haven't found one to look at in real life yet.

MarsLady · 05/07/2005 19:31

Ixel, are you still living near me? If so you can come and see the Marco and give it a trial run if you like.

lunavix · 05/07/2005 19:34

omg I am a total idiot. It never occured to me to use that, I've been kneeing the change bag! I thought that was something to do with folding it, I've never folded it up.

I do stand by buckling wheels and heavyness though...

MarsLady · 05/07/2005 19:36

lol lunavix. I'll keep an eye on my front wheels. It's not as easy to push as some of them, but it's not as bad as a side by side.

Maybe I should call myself MarcoskyLady? lol

expatinscotland · 05/07/2005 22:21

So, everyone who did buy them, did you find them worth the money? Our purchase will be for a 2.5 year old toddler who doesn't fancy long walks and a newborn.

ixel · 06/07/2005 20:21

Hi Marslady.. just seen this. Thanks for the offer. I might well take you up on it when I get a bit further along... am so paranoid about jinxing the pregnancy. We've moved house now, but still relatively close to you, and could use it as an excuse to go shopping somewhere different for a change!!

sweetkitty · 06/07/2005 20:40

DD will be 18 months when DB comes along my 3 options are E3, jane powertwin or Marcosky, very confused as to which to get??

MarsLady · 06/07/2005 21:46

The powertwin is ugly, but not as ugly as the E3.

geogteach · 06/07/2005 21:57

I love my E3 and I have a 16 month gap, like the fact I can use it as a single if i've only got one of them with me. Agree sleeping bag would be pointless for a summer born baby and lasts v short time even for winter born

lockets how much bigger is the E3 when folded compared to the Marco?

sweetkitty · 07/07/2005 16:59

I think the marcosky looks very odd and don't fancy it for a newborn. DB will be born in January in Scotland so will need a cocoon!

misdee · 07/07/2005 17:00

sweetkitty, what colour? my red one will be uo for sale by the winter (just the cocoon, not the buggy)

sweetkitty · 07/07/2005 17:29

I think I want a charcoal one if I was going to get one (still have DP to convince) but I'm sure DB wouldn't mind a red cocoon!

Are they really all that?

geogteach · 07/07/2005 18:23

I'll flog my charcoal cocoon if you're interested

lunavix · 07/07/2005 18:24

lol

I definately want a charcoal e3, don't really like the others... will probably get it new.

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 08/07/2005 14:15

I'm not sure what we are getting yet so don't want to commit on your charcoal cocoon but I'll keep it in the back of my mins, thanks
