Is wood or metal better? Want one that I can have a futon and desk under, but that's not too huge.

We have a Stompa one, they are £££ new but plenty on ebay (ours about £150 S/H IIRC). You could park a car on top of the thing! Looking at them we thought wood are more solid than metal unless the metal one is a very good quality one.

we have a thuka midsleeper, they do high sleepers too, and we're really, really pleased with it

I have a stompa mid cabin at the mo, but need a higher one as DS is asking for friends to stay and I haven't the room so we need a pull out bed underneath. Did you get yours from ebay?
