Mooncup - how do you get them out, erm, neatly??

Evening all! OK, so I have done it. After months of hearing you lot talk about the virtues of mooncups, I have now gone from 'Er yuk' to actually wearing one at the moment! (see the power of the interweb ).

So, my question is - how the heck do I get it out without making a mess?? I obviously played around with it a bit when I first put it in, to check it was in the right place (I think so - no leaks in 2 hours) and to cut the stem a bit (still need to do a bit more but wanted to leave it to check was OK first). I took it out and put it back in again a couple of times when checking this, and it got a bit, erm, messy on the outside. I assume that after several hours this would only get more messy....so how the devil do I get it out cleanly?

I am planning to wear it during the day at work, and I wear a white uniform....I can see myself with a starring role in the next slasher movie tomorrow....

So go on you lovely ladies, reassure me this will work! Any tips for a clean removal?

Thanks!

Take it out while you are sitting on the loo.
Just shift your bum back a bit and reach between your legs and then you can empty it straight into the loo and put it back in.
You might get your hands dirty, so keep wet wipes in your bag and have them handy if you don't have a sink in the cubicle.

What Jack said...

MmeLindt · 09/12/2009 21:12

Make sure you have a good hold of it. Bear down and slide it down far enough for you to hold it. DO NOT LET IT PING OPEN.

This is especially important when you remove it in your MIL's bathroom.

mumhadenough · 09/12/2009 21:14

Yup, another here who removes it sitting on the loo.

My mosaic tiled floor never recovered from the time I didn't do that and is in the process of being chiselled up

Dominique07 · 09/12/2009 21:14

How does it even go inside!?
What is the stem for!?

ilovepiccolina · 09/12/2009 21:16

Go to the loo first, because a full bladder seems to hold it in place & makes it impossible to remove.

I am slightly at thought of a while uniform. I would suggest you have a bit of loo paper poised close to it in case of splashes... I have once, in about two years, needed to change my trousers after a 'pinging' incident.

ilovepiccolina · 09/12/2009 21:17

White uniform.

KirstyJC · 09/12/2009 21:18

OK, Jack et al....I will go and try now. I will move the white rug out of the way first though I think....!

Will try hard not to let it ping open - made me chuckle reading that though!

You fold it back on inself & shove it in, it opens like a pop-up tent. The stem is to grab hold of when you pull it out, like holding onto the stem of a wine glass.

Don't, as I did when drunk tired, try to put it in upside down...

fluffles · 09/12/2009 21:19

pinch and hold tightly and twist (while sitting on the loo).

personally i've found it cleaner than taking out a tampon.

KirstyJC · 09/12/2009 21:30

Well, that was actually fine - it was less messy than a tampon I think fluffles - although I took it VERY slowly! Mind you it wasn't very full, which helped.

Really not liking the sucky noises it makes coming out though....[yuk emoticon]! I didn't twist, just pulled the stem very slowly - is twisting easier do you think?

Might give it another evening to try before using it at work though, just in case!

Wow ilove - how drunk do you have to be to put it in upside down?!?! Bet that made your eyes water!

Agree, cleaner than tampons. And less smelly!

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 09/12/2009 22:19

You need to break the seal before pulling it out, twist and small squeeze is best. try moving a finger along side of it to break the seal first as well, although if it is full, that method might get messy

I find it so much easier than a tampon now!

As well as taking it our on the loo I use a piece of toilet paper as well. This provides enough grip for me to remove as otherwise it can be a bit slippy.
