Cordon Bleu automatic slow cooker - what does the auto button do?

My mum gave me this. It is years old so no instruction manual. It has three settings - high, low and auto. I can work out high and low but I have no idea what the auto setting does. Has anyone got an instruction manual or knows where I can get one on line. Or better still tell me what the auto button does?!

LOW setting is about 200°F/93°C

HIGH setting is about 300°F/150°C.

AUTO starts off as HIGH to reach above 280°F/140°C then it reduces to the LOW setting.

Oh I used to use Auto for just about everything in my Cordon Bleu slow cooker - tis brilliant. MNP's explanation sounds about right.

Unfortunately dh broke mine .

Thank you so much! I wondered if it was something like that. I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend .

Also 2 hours on LOW is equal to 1 hour on HIGH.

I've had my Mums old Cordon Bleu slow cooker for about 10 years and I've always wondered what AUTO was for.
I can sleep tonight now I know!

Do a roast beef in it. Just stick a joint of beef in late on Saturday night (on its own no water) on LOW and by Sunday lunchtime it will smell gorgeous and there will be loads of juice for the gravy.
