Any way of converting a normal drop side cot to a bed side cot?

I'm currently co-sleeping with my 15 wk old who feeds lots in the night, she's becoming more and more of a bed hog and my DH and I are running out of room. She's taken up diagonal sleeping!

The problem is I have a guard rail on my bed to stop her falling out so if I wanted to put her in the cot next to me it's back breaking because I have to reach over the rail to put her in.

I'm toying with the idea of buying a cheap drop side cot and making some diy adjustments, ie drilling new holes for the drop side and mattress height so that it's in line with my bed.

The only other problem I have is my bed has a huge side on it so there's be a 2inch gap between the mattresses.

thanks pistachio

I'm wondering if I can stuff a blanket or something there to bridge the gap.
