Think i need to get one to put on ds1 (3) bedside table. I want one that is a nightlight, not an actual lamp or light. Something nice/interesting but not projector type thing and safe to touch!

I dont ask for much

we have little ones from ikea

a bit like this but ours are flatter and blue/ green

they are rechargeable and squashy to touch

mad4myboys · 26/11/2009 20:40

what sort of light do they give? He has a nightlight on the intercom which i think is quite bright but it is sort of white blue

My girls have the Ikea lights too

ScottishBoris · 26/11/2009 20:42

My girls have got these. Dd1 has disney princess version and dd2 has INTG - I would def recommend as they can use them as a torch too.

MollieO · 26/11/2009 20:49

Not that you want a lamp but I got a lamp from John Lewis for ds that turns on and off by touching the lamp base (the bit the shade sits on not the actual underneath base). It has 3 settings and the lowest is equivalent to a nightlight and it is perfectly safe - got it for ds when he was about 2 and we'd stopped using the baby monitor, which had a light.

the ikea lights have a glow, it does illuminate the room quite a bit I find. Would be enough to easily find your way around the room when you walk in, for example.

accessorizequeen · 26/11/2009 21:59

That cute age have a whole range of nightlights including lumilove which are really cute animals
If you're on a budget the ikea ones are fab though, I just bought 2 more today! One in red, and one in blue.

GentleOtter · 26/11/2009 22:03

I second those Ikea ghost shaped lights. We have them up the hall and in the bathroom as well. They give out a surprising amount of light and keep glowing until daybreak.

I got given a little plug-in one; I think it's an Alessi one. It's blue and really not very bright at all, but just gives enough light for me not to trip of toys/lego/small children if I have to go into their room in the night.

I have friends whose children will only sleep with all the lights blazing, and I don't really want to go there, so trying to keep the mood dim. But our house is DARK at night, so without any light it would be pitch pitch black.

this is it but I'm not sure if it's still available.

some unusual lights here The moon/sun in a jar is good and solar charged but perhaps a bit heavy if your ds was to carry it. (glass)

bran · 26/11/2009 22:10

DS has had one of these since he was 3. It has a remote control that I have attached to his headboard using double-sided sticky tape so he doesn't need to touch the actual light at all. He loves it.

The downside of it is that it goes through batteries quite quickly so you need to buy rechargeable ones.

gallusbesom · 26/11/2009 22:10

Another Ikea one here

Seona1973 · 26/11/2009 22:25

my lo's also have the go glow lights that ScottishBoris linked to - ds has the ITNG one and dd has the disney princess one.

mad4myboys · 27/11/2009 12:01

moon in a room! lol

When i safe safe to touch i mean as i also have ds2 who is 1 and can obviously reach the bedside plus also safe to be left on all night.

I wanted to get him one of those ones that are a torch but he is obsessed with torches and i know that the torch bit would be forever off the base and downstairs and having to try find it at night

Has anyone linked to these? They are cool & soft & can be picked up (it says...)

They are plugged in to charge during the day & last for 8 hours at night.

spring2life · 29/11/2009 18:53

DS has a barbapapa one , that is so cute .

mad4myboys · 30/11/2009 11:22

thanks. i bought him as lightening mcqueen base/torch thingy like the disney one someone mentioned. He likes it as cars mad but it is quite a bright white light and he doesnt like it on!!! I think i need to get him some sort of cuddly toy and then a seperate lamp for his bedside. I need one that glows a sort of dim yellowy/orange type light and that doesnt have an exposed bulb...

moonlight nightlight here - plus directly into the socket and is green -just enough light to see by and makes ds feel safe (it was this, or leave the bathroom light on...)
