We're thinking, or rather Santa is, of getting DD (age 7) an acoustic guitar for Christmas, then for DH to give lessons. So, am looking for something that can actually be tuned etc, and that will, hopefully, be able to carry a tune once she learns.

Any ideas ladies? Thank you

We got DD one because she has lessons in school, she's 11. We were going to get a 3/4 size as she's small but the bloke in the music shop tried a full size one and it was great. According to DD you are best going to a music shop because on proper guitars the strings a closer together and they use better strings. We payed £84 for it

DD2, 8yo, wants one now. She's getting a Spongebob one from a toy shop

Steel strung acoustic, or more traditional nylon (Spanish style)?

DS1 has a Stagg steel strung acoustic which was recommended by his teacher and has a lovely sound.

steel strung apparently (just had to check with DH as this is new territory for me). Will check out the Stagg one Cornflake, and also try the nearest music shop Cocolepew. Thanks.

We just bought DD a full size Jose Ferrer for about £80, her teacher was quite impressed with it.
