iphone question

I'm thinking of getting an iphone with Orange on an 18 month contract. What happens after 18 months? I know the phone is still yours, can they be unlocked like other phones? Can I go on a monthly tariff with someone else? Or is it a choice of stay with Orange or Pay as You Go with someone else.

I really want one but £30 a month is a lot, I can do it for 18 months but wouldn't want t to do it long term. I only pay £14 a month at the minute and don't make a lot of calls.

what do you want the phone for? The tarrif is £30 because of the internet and email access so unless you're using the email and internet a lot it probably isn't worth it. If you want it for the apps and music player, etc you can get most of that with the ipod touch (you can also get on the internet and get your emails but you would have to be in a wifi area).

If you moved networks after 18 months the charges would be much the same.

I want it for internet and apps, but really want to be able to access all the time not just in a wifi area. I've got internet on my LG Cookie phone but its not very easy to use, the screen looks a lot better on the iphone.

I've just rung Virgin up though and I have 8 months left on my contract so wil have to wait a bit. Thanks for the info.
