safe insect repellant - any advice?

I need to buy insect repellant for my 2 year old - can anyone recommend one that isn't full of harmful chemicals?

I think the one I used was called "Mosiguard". I got it from Tescos or Boots. Also, the Woodland fragranced items from Avon's Skin So Soft range are superb at repelling insects!!

Second mosiguard - also look for natural preparations containing citronella oil, which are effective and safe.
Sounds daft but if your 2 year old eats Marmite the B vitamins in it can make human blood less palatable to mosquitoes. If you are going abroad, it's worth packing a jar.

Note: you don't need to spread the Marmite on your child...

Mind you, it gives them a lovely tan...

Not really for chldren but tTaking yeast tablets works too. I think the insects can smell it on your skin and avoid you. You don't smell like a brewery though.

skin so soft from Avon, not the bug ones just the regular skin so soft is very good formy 20 month toddler and we live in mosquito territory

Where can I buy Avon products these days? I thought Avon Ladies were no more.

I think they have a website and I think it's been linked to before on Mumsnet. Probably under another mosquito thread! Avon ladies are still alive and well though. I know a couple of them.

This thread talked about Skin so Soft. Another thread claims that it's so effective the US Marines use it!
