Playpens - soft sided or traditional?

Hi,
I'm looking at buying a couple of those modular playpens to provide a large play area for my little one. (like this one: www.olivers-baby-care.co.uk/lindam-soft-sided-playpen.html?utm_source=Google-Base&utm_medium= Web&utm_campaign=Gbase)
I'm just wondering, is the one with fabric sides (soft) better than the more traditional playpens with vertical bars?

The latter seem to provide better visibility 'outside', but then if my LO desides to fall back from sitting position (he's not yet sitting confidently), hitting his head against the hard bars will most likely hurt more than falling back onto the fabric mesh. What do you think is a better option?
I'd appreciate your feedback.
