balance bikes

I have 2 children one ds aged 4 and dd aged 2, ds wants to ride a bike without stabilisers but hasn't quite got the balance so I want a balance bike for him but one where I can lower the seat so my dd can start to use it too. Is there such a bike out there that will cater for these 2 ages? Does anyone have any recommendations?

It all depends on their height, tbh. My very active and well balanced three year is just too short for them, while other children have been fine at two.

If you have a look at their details on line, you'll see recommended heights.

The likeabike kokua is good, as is the ridgeback zooom.

Islabike Rothan is one of teh smallest ones on teh market, OK for an average ( 50th centile) 2 yr old, but too short for an average 4 yr old.

Puky are worth a look at, good range of sizes, the middle one MIGHT work for your 2.

Zooom (yes 3 o's!).... Very good, seat easily adjusts.

I bought from www.striderbike.co.uk

Another mum and service was A1, delivered next day and i paid £71.99 the cheapest price i found. Seat and handlebars adjust so its suitable from a height of 76 cm (child height!)

mousymouse · 25/06/2010 12:47

the puky ones come in different sizes.
we have the hudora one from john lewis but it is quite tall more for children from 3 years old (tall ds started riding on it when he was 2.5)

We've got this one frm Wiggle that both my 4yo and 2.4 happily use, albeit with the seat at different heights (there's 10cm height difference between the dcs).

providentielle · 26/06/2010 17:05

this one says suitable from age two, has an adjustable seat and I've heard lots of good things about it

I still love the Strider, It is so light and my boy used it from 21 months. He zooms around now after his sister! Its the only one i found that both handlebars and seat adjust in any increment

we have the early rider classic for ds. he got it at 20 months and is now 26 months and flies on it with his feet up sometimes! is the best thing as i see so many parents bent over pushing their children on 'normal' bikes.

We got likeabike Kokuas for both our DSs. DS1 got one for his 3rd birthday and ds2 started on his at 2.6. They are fabulous bikes, but they aren't ideal for taller children.DS1 is average height and had definitely grown out of his by his 4th b'day. The seat goes up a bit, but the handlebars don't adjust. Ds2 (3.5) still zooms around on his - he was thrown out of the skate park this afternoon for being too much of a headcase on his.
