Those bizarre bath buckets - anyone got one?

Dh is a sucker for gimmicks and gadgets but is also in charge of bathtime. Any idea if these bucket things are any good?

It's here

FS- a normal bucket wouldn't work- these are a different shape and are bigger and rounded inside. Also much less likely to fall over.

They are also good if you have had a c/s or a bad back as you can bath on a tabletop without having to bend down. And i know you can with a normal baby bath but becaue the tummy tub is easier to lift, and you don't have to use as much water (because most of the space is taken up by baby!) its easier to lift up.
I found it invaluable.

I find that I can wash my son all over while he is in it. Maybe it will get more tricky as he gets bigger. Still , "HE'S LOVING IT" . Just about to give him a deep actualy .

my dd even used to stand up in it sometimes as she got bigger. There is some more info here

Willow2 · 06/06/2005 20:26

You weren't in Mothercare World on Saturday, by any chance were you? Saw a couple trying to work out which, if any, of these contraptions they should buy!

norash · 06/06/2005 20:27

My son already stand in he's not proper standing obviously but pushing himself up.

norash · 06/06/2005 20:28

hmh! @ willow two

biglips · 06/06/2005 20:28

im sure that my baba will get stuck in them as she is long and stocky !!

norash · 06/06/2005 20:32

Hey big lips how long is your Baba?

norash · 06/06/2005 20:33

And how heavy?

Willow2 · 06/06/2005 20:34

hmh? An acronym I don't know?

Libb · 06/06/2005 20:35

he just used a thingy like Twiglett's (cheaper in Babies R Us though!) until DS could sit up with a rubber mat underneath him.

biglips · 06/06/2005 20:36

sorry, she had gone past 6 months old but when she was 6 months she weighed 21lb and was 72 cm long so surely her legs would've been wrapped around her neck

KBear · 06/06/2005 20:37

Before he could sit unaided I used to put DS in a small rubber ring (for swimming from ELC) when he was in the bath. He was heavy and my back was bad so I couldn't lean over the bath and hold him for long periods of time. So he'd be in the rubber ring, laying back, kicking away, happy as larry all for about three of our fine English pounds.

norash · 06/06/2005 20:38

Willow two, I meant please elaborate.

norash · 06/06/2005 20:40

@ biglips

LionTamer · 06/06/2005 20:57

my two year old can still fit in obviously she doesn'thave baths in it any more. Its quite big you know.

zubb · 06/06/2005 21:03

We bought one for ds1 over 3 years ago on the advice of our midwife and it's the best thing we bought. Ds1 and ds2 loved it, and I found it a lot easier than a baby bath - and a lot easier to store. Both of them were long, large babies and we had no problem with them fitting in, or being able to wash them!

Willow2 · 06/06/2005 22:11

It was one of those classic "which one do we get?" moments, and I really wanted to lean over and say, "they're all a waste of money, don't bother" but then I figured that parenthood is a learning process, particularly when it comes to plastic crap... and who was I to take away that part of the journey for them?

madrose · 06/06/2005 22:18

We got one for dd when she was two weeks old, she loves it (now 14 weeks old) no problem with washing her. she loves to stick her feet out over the edge, and she just bobs about in the water. it really help when she had colic and now she laughs and gets excited when I take her into the bathroom.

I have it on a cabinet next to the bath - really saved my back, and I can seat next to her and pull silly faces

Laura032004 · 06/06/2005 22:20

If anybody is interested, I've got one of these that I'd be happy to sell - ds is a bit old for it now (14m). Did up to 12m though. It's a transparenty blue colour IYKWIM. Can do pics.

lunachic · 06/06/2005 22:40

i just used a normal bucket of the right size with a folded towel in the bottom !
and yes they are really good and make bathtime much easier

eidsvold · 07/06/2005 07:37

used what Twiglett showed for both of ours and in fact sent one to my SIL in Aus when we were still living in the UK as she could not find one here. Brilliant.

fastasleep · 07/06/2005 08:01

They look so funny in those see through buckets!! I want one just for a photo opportunity
