Solar Power?

Hi all does any one know anything about Sloar power

I'm thinking about using a system for hot water and combining it with a wood burner for winter ( and maybe running some radiators off that)

Does anyone have that sort of system? Is there a down side? How much do they cost? Is there a running cost? Who do I buy from?

Does the great MN communal brain know anything about Solar power?

no idea, but would love to find out as well.

I think it is worthwhile pre-heating your hot water with solar power then heating it more with conventional power - but to do any more than this the solar systems are very expensive to buy.

I already have a wood burner which heats 3 rooms I would like to add a central heating pump to it and heat an additional 4 radiators - but I may have to get a larger wood burner.

I think combining it with Solar Power to really reduce my elec bills

what about a wind turbine on your roof? costs approx £1500 (reduced to 8-900 with govt grants) and they can save approx £100 per annum of electricity bills.

my best mate's dh works for BP Solar - I can ask her what the pros/cons are?

flobbleflobble · 05/06/2005 18:59

Are the wind turbines noisy like wind farms?

misdee · 05/06/2005 19:00

no idea. just read about them in MIL paper last week.

Oh Jampots yes please

Misdee - I really fancy that but I don't think planning would go for it
