Want to have my diamond earings reset into a ring - best place to go to NOT be ripped off!

I have already had a quote for resetting my diamond earings into a ring with one more diamond (or such) and it is costing more than my engagement ring cost (and then some)!! Granted, this was 15 years ago and the prices have changed somewhat but seriously! I don't mind travelling across the country to make it cheaper to buy (I'm in Surrey) I am in no rush (can't afford it til I get a job in any case! TIA
