iPOD TOUCH - Can films/TV shows only be downloaded from iTunes Store?

I am considering buying my son an iPod Touch for his birthday. Does anyone know if it is possible to download films/TV shows from anywhere other than the iPod Store?
They seem to be quite expensive from there...films costing as much as a dvd would?

we download stuff from other sites, like UK Nova, generally to computer and then transfer onto iPod, so no, you don't have to do it from the iPod store.
